This is the greatest sub compact camera of 2009! It has every feature that you can imagine. The only problem is that it isnt durable, SO DONT DROP IT!
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life, Flimsy Construction
I would recommend this to a friend!

I love this camera, its simple to use, it has tons of features, i don't have a manual so i'm still learning everything on it, batteries to die too fast though, a great camera for someone who knows alitttle about camera features, beginners who just use the auto button work too. . .
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life

Best camera ever

I just want to tell you just how very happy I am with both of my Power Shot cameras. I just love taking pictures of our pups. I won both of these cameras from GSN Live when they used to have their contests live on their show. I couldn't afford a digital camera at the time when I won them and I just didn't know how much I was missing out on until I received them. Now I can't live without them. Thank you so much for making such a great product.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Fantastic camera for the money

My one Daughter lost her camera, so I gave her my two year old Kodak point and shoot camera and hit the Internet to find me a replacement for that one. After spending several hours looking and reading reviews, I picked the Cannon A590IS. The things I liked about the camera when I first saw it, was the shape. I don't like those real small flat ones. They are great to stick in your shirt pocket, but are hard to hold steady and shoot. This one had a nice handle like grip where the batteries fit in and you can hold it and shoot with one hand if you want to. It's still small enough to fit into a coat pocket, purse and pants pocket. It had great reviews and the price was great.I sure wasn't disappointed when I got it and got a chance to use it. It was everything people were saying it was. Easy to figure out, took great pictures and had a good zoom.
I wanted a camera that used AA batteries, which you can find anywhere if your batteries die on you. The Cannon had that too. But it had something my Kodak didn't have and that was a view finder. Not many cameras have a view finder anymore. It really comes in handy when the sun is bright and washes out your LCD screen. But I soon discovered another great use for it. The view finder can stretch the life of your batteries a long way. On many shots, I turn the screen off and shoot using the view finder. The screen will light up for a second or two and show me what I shot and turn off again. That really is a great battery saver if used and would take care of most of the complaints about this camera.
There are so many features on this camera, both automatic and adjustable that it's hard to believe it sells for so little. It should satisfy the needs of about anyone, novice or skilled camera user.
A good safety feature you can use, is when putting your camera away, put the switch in (review) mode and not in (shoot)mode. That way if it accidentally gets turned on, the lens won't open up and push against what ever you put it in with and mess up the lens.
I liked this camera so much, I just ordered two more. One for my other Daughter and one for my Son. They should get them this week and I'm sure they will love it as much as I do.
If your looking for a good point and shoot camera with most of the bells and whistles on it and small enough to put in your pocket or coat, but big enough to get a good grip on it, you can't go wrong with this camera. You will love this Cannon.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, durable

Great Buy

I bought this camera for my husband for Christmas 2 years ago....he is not a stand & wait for the picture to process kind of guy so the Heart mode has been a great option for him. I saw where people were having problems with batteries but as one reviewer stated the Energizer Ultimate Lithium is the way to go. I took the camera to Hawaii took almost 400 pictures with the same set of batteries...which included video as well. I do wish it had a continous option but for the price I paid I am more than satisfied with what it has! To me this has been one of the best point & shoot cameras I have used!

Fantastic Value

I bought this to just get used to the newer digital cameras before buying a more expensive one. I had an older digital camera and a DVD camcorder and a film Minolta Maxxum. However, I found that the pictures on this camera were so good that I have been using it instead of the other completely. As an amateur photographer, I am very impressed with this camera's picture and LCD quality. I am not sure I want a more expensive camera with more complicated features to bog me down. I especially bought this camera since it is easy to hold since it is not flat on the front right side. It has a place to grip your fingers so you can hold it with one hand comfortably. I did not know that a relatively inexpensive digital camera could have such great features. I do not think the battery life is bad at all. It even takes pretty good videos. I use my camcorder less, especially when taking just short clips of the kids.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable, easy to hold
Cons: Complicated controls/menu
