Great Little Camera!!

I bought this to replace my Canon PS A70, and am very happy with it. I do find that my rechargeable batteries do not last as long in this camera, but battery life is acceptable . The camera body is not as sturdy as the A70 , but I would NOT call it flimsy. I like that this camera has a viewfinder , which comes in handy particularly in sunny weather. I would not buy a camera that lacked a viewfinder. Also like that is uses AA batteries instead of expensive battery packs that are not readily found in a pinch. Overall , it is a great little camera.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, durable, viewfinder is decent size, uses aa batteries
Cons: Short battery life
I would recommend this to a friend!

Creative Camera

I'm a serious amatuer landscape photographer who requires four things from a camera. These are: superior image quality, manual control of aperture and shutter speed, true wide angle capability, and a low price. I had been using a Canon A540 for the last two years because it satisfied all these requirements, so when I decided I wanted to upgrade to a new camera, the A590IS was the obvious choice. It uses the same size and shape body, not too large and not too small, with a nice sized grip to hold onto, aperture priority, shutter priority and manual modes, and the ability to use the same fine 52mm Canon wide angle lens as the A540 (which gets the camera's 35mm lens down to 24mm). More wide angle capability would be nice, but 24mm is acceptable. This is basically the same camera as the A540 with the only changes being 8mp instead of 6mp, slightly faster response times, a nicer dark silver color, a little more solid feeling build, and the addition of image stabilization. The only thing lacking from the A540 is the positive (slide film) color mode. I would have liked to have seen a little faster flash recharge times, an easier to see LCD in bright sunlight, and less noise at higher ISOs than the A540, but these are minor quibbles. The A590 actually is less noisy at ISO 400 and above than the A540, and the LCD is brighter, but not as much as I would have liked. The images are sharper than the A540 and the color fidelity is slighly better, so I'm quite happy with my purchase. I feel it was money well spent. This is a camera for everyman (or woman), because it has all the creative control that people like me require, but also will give fantastic results in the auto mode for the average user who just wants to point and shoot. The definite bargain of the year. You could spend a lot more, and get a camera that's essentially no better. Two enthusaistic thumbs up!
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
Cons: no slide film color mode, no brightness adjustment on lcd, would like more wide angle capability

Bought this camera as a "carry-along" for my personal use. With the LCD and the sounds turned off, battery life has been exceptional.
On an assignment this morning, the battery died in my DSLR and I finished shooting a barn fire with the A590is -- I couldn't believe how good the results were. They actually compared favorably with the DSLR that cost 10X more!
Ya done good Canon.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, good battery life
Cons: could be a little bigger.

Great Camera For What It Does

Don't confuse "Image Stabilization" with action stopping. Even on the most expensive camera you can buy, image stabilization does not stop action. If you want to "stop action", use a high ISO setting and a fast shutter speed. Image Stabilization counteracts the slight camera movements made when you use slow shutter speeds in low light, and it is outstanding for that. Make sure you understand the features and capabilities of whatever camera you buy, and you will be very pleased with the results. When this camera is used by someone who takes a little time to learn its features and how to use them, it makes outstanding pictures.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, great value for the price

I bought this for me, and bought the SD1100 for my friend in Canada. I liked the 1100 because of the feel and quality of the feel. It's not all plastic flimsy as this one is..
i bought expensive rechargeable batteries for this camera and THEY DO NOT LAST.... I used a lot of batteries in this and they "die" quick, without use. Yet, I can put those same batteries in another product and they work fine..
I go buy the Hybrid Rayovac batteries 1.2v 2100mAh and I can have the batteries sit there in the camera forever... You know what? I haven't recharged them for over 2 months and the battery light isn't even on...
I do like the quality of the pictures taken. I haven't read the book to fully understand all the features, but for snapping with ultrafine quality, it's really really good. You also don't have to stand 100% still like my other Canon(which was a few years old). This is also very lightweight. The smaller 1100 was heavier. search yahoo for a camera review site and you can see the quality of this camera(by looking at pictures done from this camera by professionals) amongst many others and for the price to quality, you'll notice Canon at the top.
Pros: Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, cheap, best battery to use is hybrids last forever
Cons: Flimsy Construction

What a Gem!

My girlfriend and I just recently purchased this little gem of a camera together. We love taking pictures of just about everything. But, while I was good at taking pictures with my other camera, she was ...well... "camera challenged!" We take a lot of road trips together and on our last road trip she took some of the most stunning pictures I have seen. She was so proud of herself and she was so surprised that she did it effortlessly. This camera is amazing. Point and shoot. That's it!. If you get creative, like me, there's a host of other options. But, for the technically challenged the auto and easy settings are perfect for the person who wants to feel like a pro!
Many thanks. You've made me a happy man because my girlfriend is now happy!
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
