Great Design, "Unfortunate" Quality

When I first saw the Evergreen, it was everything I wanted in a cell phone and without everything I didn't want. With the slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a reasonably sized screen that kept the phone to a size relatively smaller than many text-friendly phones, the Evergreen went even further with the uncommon option of navigating between phone, messaging, internet, music player and games at the same time with the press of a special button. This is handy when browsing the internet while listening to your favorite tunes and/or texting, talking, etc. The screen is large enough to gain at least a modest appreciation for any photos displayed, and although the low-end (by current cell phone standards) 2 mega-pixel camera might leave something to be desired with any photos downloaded onto a computer, the supplied photo-editing software is much more than adequate for a phone.
While the phone's design and features are abundant
for the relatively modest price, the hitch comes about two weeks after purchasing the phone, when it begins to malfunction. After receiving the phone, I had immediately checked out online reviews and discovered the common flaw, that the phone turns itself off or re-starts itself and sometimes freezes up, requiring you to take the battery out and restart the phone. I hoped my phone wouldn't have these problems, but, sure enough, almost exactly two weeks after I got it, the phone began the reputed quirks. I loved the phone's design and decided to deal with the restarts, but when it began freezing up, I took it back and swapped it for a new Evergreen. I have my second one now, and I'm hoping it will be a good one that somehow escaped having the reported problems. Since the problems start after about two weeks of use, my guess is that there is likely a problem with a faulty batch of a component used, and it begins breaking down after a certain amount of use.
I love the design and there isn't another phone available through my carrier that offers the same combination of features, so I may have to return a couple of faulty Evergreens until I get one that was built after the initial faulty-batch run. I hope I find one before I get completely frustrated with re-setting a new phone every few weeks and have to go with something different. Also, since my last Samsung phone (an "Impression") died exactly one month after the warranty went out on it, I'm beginning to wonder if I should steer clear of Samsung cell phones entirely. We shall see...
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Inexpensive, Realistic color, Lightweight, navigable functions
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, seems to have "production bugs"
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Phone randomly turns off
on November 19, 2011

My phone will randomly turn off in the middle of a call, sending a text message, taking a picture, doing anything really. The extra keyboard is unnecessary and annoying. The internet almost never works, and I have to delete all of my text messages and pictures almost weekly because it can't hold enough of my data. I only have one game and am considering deleting it so that I can hold more texts.
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, can't hold enough information, turns off randomly
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

One major flaw

If it weren't for some major idiosyncrasies, I'd recommend this phone as a good, basic texting phone. However, it randomly shuts off, drops calls, and sometimes (even without shutting off) the address book becomes inaccessible while it "initializes". Otherwise, the size, shape, keyboard, features, price, screen size, photo quality would make it a good phone, if you don't mind these occasional inconveniences. I don't have a data plan but as a texting phone it's adequate. Had I read reviews about this phone before buying it I'd have avoided it, like you should do.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, decent screen for viewing photos
Cons: shuts off address book sometimes inaccessible
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

major design flaw

I wanted to like this phone. The size was good. The slide out keyboard was great. I also really enjoyed my previous samsung phone. But, the evergreen has a software glitch or something. Just like everyone else says, my evergreen would shut off randomly. It would be turned off for hours at a time without me knowing it. So, I missed calls. The texting would also giving me the "initializing" message alot. It took quite a while for the phone to "initialize".
Anyway, I read all the reviews and went back to AT&T. Suprisingly, the rep there didn't know of this common problem with the Evergreen. He did let switch to another phone quite easily. I chose the Pantech this time, and I'm happy with it.
Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good phone with one MAJOR problem

This phone was a great phone when I first started using it, but after a couple months it started having a recurring problem: It would randomly decide to reboot or shut down any time it wanted. Most frequently, this happens after attempting to send a text. I'll hit send and put the phone in my pocket, after an hour of expecting a reply, I pull the phone out and find it is turned off and the text did not send. Sometimes, it will be sitting on my desk and I'll watch it do a power cycle randomly.
The other big con I noticed was that you have to be careful when typing on the keyboard. If you hit a letter before you've completely let go of the previous on, it won't register. So if you type quickly, YU MIT ND UPWIH MSSNGLTTRS (you might end up with missing letters).
I really do love everything else about this phone, the call quality seems good, I like the design, and it is a good price. But the restarting/shutting down issue is bad enough that it should have this phone recalled. I've seen numerous people complain about it.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight
Cons: unreliable due to restarting and shutting down, can't type quickly
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Shuts down for no reason

This phone shuts itself down for no reason every couple of days. Not because battery is low. Keyboard is locked so it can't be accidental pocket shutdown. Just a poor product. And the keyboard kind of stinks too--have to push some the keys really hard to make them work. All in all a pretty weak device. DO NOT GET THIS PHONE.
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not at all what was advertised.
on March 5, 2012
Posted by: MikesDailyPodcast
First off, I've spent more time on fixing this phone than I wanted to. It didn't come with ear buds, it didn't come with a memory card, it turns off all the time, it was advertised to come with a radio which it doesn't (unless you buy an expensive data plan), and the eco function doesn't work (the pedometer function).
The only thing I like is the keyboard which is an improvement over touch screens in my opinion.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Inexpensive
Cons: Poor quality, Not high def, Did not meet expectations, eco function doesn't work, doesn't come with ear buds, no radio, turns off a lot, doesn't come with memory card
