Phone shuts off
on July 5, 2011
Posted by: GramBet
This phone is a bit awkward to use and the keyboard is a bit small which means typos. My biggest complaint is that it shuts itself off for no apparent reason! My grandson has the exact same phone (gotten at the same time) and is having the same problem. It also does not receive as good a signal as my OLD phone did.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color
Cons: Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Lousy phone...

I've been a fairly loyal Samsung customer for several years, and this phone has been nothing but a disappointment since I bought it six months ago. Since the first week, it has the worst reception of any digital handset I've ever used, its Bluetooth reception is flakey to say the least - and God help you if you get near enough to a device for the phone to auto-pair if you should happen to be on a call: you WILL get dropped, every time. The speakerphone option randomly toggles between on and off. The phone will occasionally just simply fail to sound a notification OR display an icon when new text messages are in the inbox, and FREQUENTLY simply fails to ring when a call comes in, whether I've got a strong signal from the tower or not.
In the last month or so, the phone has started showing another few delightful little pieces of foolishness - randomly shutting down without warning, failing to initialize the contact list unless you shut down and start up 3-4 times, and failing to recognize key-presses even when the phone is switched on.
Just as soon as I'm upgrade-available through my carrier, I will be getting rid of this hunk of garbage and buying myself something reliable.
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Nice and Basic

Most importantly, basic phone features work well, calls are clear. No built-in FM radio, a feature that I wanted. I added a stereo handsfree and memory card to listen to music. Sound quality is good. Music player and equalizer options work well. Also added a snug fitting rubberized case. Nice "Go to" key that can be customized. That together with other shortcut keys makes it possible to get to favorite features easily. Bluetooth pairs up well but doesn't fully sync with my car. The voice command in my car can only reach one phone number into the contacts list, not all numbers (cell, home, business) like my previous phone allowed, but this problem can be worked around with separate contact listings. After some searching on the internet, I was able to find a place to download Samsung New Studio PC. Helps in loading pictures, music, syncing contacts, calendar, etc. Great software for completing the utility of the phone and its many features. Lengthy MP4 videos can be loaded on a memory card and play well with a clear picture and sound. I like the Eco construction and theme. On the value side, I like not being tied to a required monthly data fee, but having the option of signing up for a month at a time when I want to use data intense apps and dropping the charge if I don't want to have the expense.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight, camera & camcorder, music player
Cons: Did not meet expectations, no fm radio
I would recommend this to a friend!

For the most part the phone works well. But it turns on in my pocket, even if I don't have anything in my pocket. My last problem is that it takes a while to turn on, in 2011 I expect a phone to turn on quickly.

I have had this phone for a couple of months now. I got it brand new. Have had 3 refurbished ones sent to me and all of them are doing the exact same thing. Dropping calls, shutting down and restarting while someone is calling, texting or me trying to call and text. Gets very agrivating. Have had batteries, chargers and phone replaced and all of them do the same thing. I am not happy with this phone at all.
Cons: Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Remember what the primary function of a phone used to be?

My last cell phone of 2 years was a Samsung Flight, and--except for a few issues--I was very pleased with its performance. I rarely used the smart phone features; but when I did, they helped me to find out what I needed (usually directions or the scores of important games I couldn't watch on TV). Most importantly, my Flight had wonderful reception: I could probably count on both hands how many times a call broke up or was dropped on me. I live in the Midwest, and I could drive from Chicago to Minneapolis to northern Wisconsin without dropping below 3 bars.
Maybe I was spoiled by this previous experience, but my new Samsung Evergreen (I just picked it up a week ago) has really been a disappointment thus far. On the positive side, I do like the design of this phone. The screens are easy to navigate, and the keyboard is responsive in writing text messages. The camera takes nice pictures for what it is, and it's simple to use. And I like that the manufacturer has tried to be more environmentally aware in the choice of materials.
That being said, I am very disappointed in the quality of reception of the Evergreen. From the first call I made where I bought the phone to the call I made this morning from my apartment (where I used to have 5 bars on my Flight and now have 0 to 3), I have had considerable distortion on the line and frequently a cutting out of audio. On top of this, I had the phone in my pocket the other night (it was fully charged), and it decided to shut off of its own accord, and I subsequently missed an important call. I think the makers of this phone--while striving to make a phone that appeals to the eco-conscious and text-happy--have failed to deliver when it comes to the most important functions of a phone...making, receiving, and maintaining calls.
