Worth its Weight in Gold

This machine is worth its weight in gold (and it's a really heavy machine). It saves me so much time by cleaning everything thoroughly the first time and not having to monitor/wait for the wash to finish, (then put in the dryer and then wait for the dryer)--since it does all the above and even has a post-dry cycle that will continue to rotate the drum occasionally, after the dry cycle has finished, to prevent wrinkles from forming. So you can put a load of dirty clothes in at night and in the morning you will have clean, dry clothes. However, the machine also saves SO much money! It's a front loader, so it's more gentle on clothes. It's an energy star appliance, so not only does it barely use any energy, doing a large load uses the equivalent amount of water as flushing a toilet twice. Plus, the steam feature saves on hot water. Also, the amount of money saved by NOT having to take clothes to the dry cleaners is priceless. In 2+years, the machine has paid for itself, just on what is saved by not having to go to the dry cleaners. I wash all my cashmere, silks, comforters, pillows and curtains in the machine as well as wool suits. In case of a fire, (after my family and computer back up drive), this washer/dryer would be the item that I would try to save and take with me as I run outside.

Washer/Dryer Combo is Great!

I've had my machine for 4 years now and just love it! I put it upstairs for convenience. It took a few trial and error tries to stop the vibration on my old wood floors, but good anti-viberation cups were the answer. It is ideal for anyone who needs laundry without venting or special electric. Expensive to buy but you do indeed get what you pay for with LG.

This is the second one of this type of washer that we have owned. The first one was about 10 years old. We had renovated a 2nd floor bathroom and added this washer/dryer as a way to help with the laundry load. Throw in a load in the morning, and when you come home later on it washed and dried. We like it. Upsides: compact, no deed for a dryer vent. Downsides : watch the high speed spin cycle, it really shakes the house. A little pricey, don't overload it, clothes may come out damp

Best Appliance Ever

I live in a condo and this washer/dryer is perfect for condo living. I just rolled it into my kitchen, hooked it up to the water line for the sink and plugged it into the regular electricity outlet. Most people complain about the overall length of the cycle, but I do not mind it at all. I mean, you put your laundry in and go about your life; you will not stand there for three hours waiting for it to finish. I am a young professional and this machine/dryer fits my lifestyle perfectly.

Technology at its best

We purchased the WM3988HWA after careful research of all available washer/dryer combos and have owned ours for over a year now. We love this machine - it is quiet (we put it on a rubber mat to help absorb vibrations) and it cleans beautifully. The direct drive shaft was a plus for me over belt driven drums. The drying time does take longer but this kind of machine requires approaching laundry altogether differently anyway - and it actually suits our very active lifestyles better. I can put in a good size load at night and be ready to fold it and put it away in the a.m. The lint was somewhat of a problem for me until I found that a wet washcloth wiped around the rubber seal would clean all the residue lint easily. We have very little to no lint in our clothes now, and we own 2 large long-haired cats. I have found the interface to be a little bit difficult to decipher, and I still haven't quite learned how to utilize all the buttons. I keep the instruction book handy so I can read up each time about the various extra features one can add into the programmed washes. I got the 5 year warranty just to be safe, as this is our first washer/dryer combo machine. I would definitely recommend this product.
have owned combination washer/dryers for over a decade, and the LG WM3988HWA is my third such machine. This is absolutely the best combo unit available. The capacity, cleaning performance, and ability to dry in the same drum without a dryer vent make this the ideal machine for me. The biggest complaint about combos is that they take a long time to dry and that half loads are recommended for good dry performance. The reason the drying takes longer is that ventless combos dry using a condensation process. By passing the hot drum air through a mist of cool water, the "steam" from the clothes is condensed into water and flushed out by the washer/dryer's water pump. The heavier the fabric, the longer it takes. A full load of cottons will wash and dry in 4.5 hours. A full load of synthetics and some light cottons will wash and dry in 3 hours. I love this machine. The steam feature, both during the wash cycle and as a way to freshen dry clothing, is something I use all the time. There are many other great features like a drum light, delay wash, the ability to customize cycles. Bottom line, this machine takes longer to do what separate machines do, but it requires no vent, just a standard electrical outlet, and everything gets washed and dried after you press start. I love the WM3988HWA, and if you're thinking about a combo, get this one; you'll love it too

No wonder it has been discontinued.....

To keep it short. No lint trap = lint everywhere = clogged machine = low to no heat. This means the machine is obsolete. It can not even properly wash your clothes because of all the left over dirt, dead skin, and other debris from every load the machine has run.
I have never used a dryer without a lint trap. I could never imagine how a machine could do without one (it just does not make sense). But LG's "LG WM-3677HW" pulled it off. Very disappointing and huge waste of money. Luckily none of you will have to go through this since it has been discontinued.
All I can hope for now is a replacement unit for this huge engineering failure by LG.
I will update this review later on the status of LG's replacement unit.
Pros: faulty
