Mostly worst printer I've ever used
on April 29, 2016

This is perhaps the worst printer I've ever used. It is difficult and complicated to use. It has no flexibility in many of the settings. For example, I can't set the print quality to DRAFT so I can minimize ink use etc. Also it will not allow me to print on smaller paper e.g. 3x5 cards. Those settings I can set are difficult to find. The menus seem inconsistent seeming to shift with the application. This printer is suppose to be a photo printer but I've not experience anything very great with it. If I could afford to dump this printer I would have a long time ago. I can only hope that its downfalls include short longevity so I can justify buying a new non-Epson printer.

Expression Photo XP-850

Purchased the printer for printing photos of our travels and family. Not only were the ink cartdriges "small" ,expensive and needed constant replacing, after 18 months (just out of the warranty" the Printer pad needed to be replaced. Cost of the replacement was almost equivalent to purchasing a new printer!
Printed pictures were great as well as the CD/DVD print...but the short working use of the printer NEGATES THE POSITIVE! In the recycle bin!

New printer - better than old one

The XP-850 replaced my previous Epson Artisan 710, which sadly lasted only 3 years before a serious mechanical malfunction. The XP-850 is immensely better in all the functions I have used so far (have not tried to fax - have a separate fax machine). Printing is faster with excellent results - I particularly wanted to be able to print on CD's/DVD's. This printer does that well, but sadly there is no mention or guidance in the Quick Guide about this function - hopefully Epson will correct this oversight. The touch screen is excellent; the initial set-up is easy; paper loading well-done. Wireless printing and scanning work smoothly. The smaller footprint is appreciated as well as the power-saver. Hopefully this printer will last longer than the last one, which I also liked, but this is a far superior product.

Very Good AIO

The XP-850 is a very good home printer, copier, scanner, fax. It was not difficult to set up with my wireless network. My only cons are that each time the printer is shut down the date and time has to be reset, and when the printer is in sleep mode it takes a long time for it to wake to do a print job. I sometimes have to push the on/off button to wake it to do the printing.

NEED to store more paper
on September 9, 2013

Beautiful printer, very good output & Terrible paper capacity.
1. Main paper cassette can only hold 41 photo (100 regular paper).
2. "Auto" paper select not able to switch cassette when 1 is out & both store the same type of paper.
3. Once the output tray is extended, it is quite hard to remove input paper cassette to refill paper. Not to mention it does not retract when turn off.
I just want a good photo printer. 8.5x11 and 4x6 with a large (~200 photo paper) paper capacity

Bought mainly for photos. So far printed 36, 4 x 6 photos on premium glossy paper and a few documents.Almost out of ink that came with printer but had photos on highest setting for quality.Photos are excellent for the most part but doesn't always print exact color on pc.overall costs less to print vs a lab print

First of all, I do not use this printer as a fax machine and only rarely use it as a copier. I use it to print photographs and the odd test document. I had been using an Epson NX625 and still do. The XP-850 discriminates more with its ink choices and therefore the images should be better than other run-of-the-mill printers. And at the high end of choice it does an excellent job. It falls down though if you just use draft quality or even standard in that vertical lines appear on the image. The two-sided print aspect works efficiently, and the rear entry for card stock does an adequate job though with single page feed I always have to go through the preliminary choices. The machine does not remember that I have been using the rear feed. I do not like the automatic exit tray. If I am loading individual pages in the front tray I have to push it in to access the bottom tray. This can become tedious. In the NX 625 I just let the pages fall out without taking out the exit tray. The upper front tray is an effective addition. So far I have not found that the ink supply is used up any more quickly than with other printers of similar quality. If you are interested in a fairly good printer for photographic printing then I would recommend this printer.
