This cooktop heats water faster than a gas cooktop can and is much safer with no open flame. It also controls the heat settings beautifully. Can't imagine ever cooking on anything else! Safe for households with curious youngsters and even more curious felines! Overall a winner.

Good cooktop but some issues

I would give my cooktop a 3.5 rating. The rating stems from two issues. The first is that the left front burner, the easiest one to use, cooks unevenly. Especially when using saute or fry pans, food in some parts of the pan cooks faster than in others. So when making bacon, the outer third of each slice cooks slower than the rest of the slice. This makes it difficult to cook large or long items. My pans are recommended for this cooktop, lie inside the outer perimeter of the cooking area, and have a flat bottom
The second issue is cleaning. Grease got under a skillet and burned into the surface. I am still unable to remove the burned matter using the recommended cleaner and a lot of elbow grease. I've also tried suggestions I read in online forums (ie., baking soda) without success.
Overall, I would still buy induction over gas, but perhaps not this model PHP900SMSS

we are updating our kitchen to all stainless steel appliances. This unit replaced our old GE counter top. My wife cannot believe how quickly you can bring a pot of water to boil.

Just like gas

The extra money for induction was well worth it. Having used the standard glass stove for years I was surprised how fast the new stove heated things. Boiling water no longer took 30 minutes.

love cooktop

Takes getting used to cooking with induction. Had to purchase magnetic cookware. Love consistent and quick heat. Is a little noisy. Large burner doesn't work with some magnetic pans. Still checking on this before calling repairman. Location of large burner is under handle of microwave which could cause a problem with Metallic Plastic Handle covering as reported in other reviews. Love ease of cleaning and looks. Overall, a great purchase.
