Love this new way of cooking

I had seen a demonstration of induction cooking at an appliance store and decided I wanted an induction cooktop for our new home. The GE model had received good reviews on all the websites I saw, plus it was a better value than some of the other brands, so that was what made me decide on this unit. I absolutely love it! It took a little while to get used to the speed of the cooking and which level to use, but now both my DH and I are hooked. I love the fact that the kitchen doesn't get as hot cooking this way and it is the easiest cooktop to clean I've ever had. Plus it looks beautiful!

Induction is superior

I have had this cooktop for about a year now, and I am very satisfied with its performance. I did have to change out a few pots and pans, but I was aware that would be the case when I bought the cooktop. This particular model is well thought out. The 11" element heats my largest skillet and stockpot with ease, and while the other elements appear small in comparison, they are actually sized very well for the rest of my pots and pans. Cleanup is a snap with the completely flat surface. The touch controls take a little getting used to, but they work fine once you understand them.
More than anything, this review is about induction cooking in general. Compared to gas, you get the same responsiveness to heat, but with even more control. You can't use every pot and pan, but once you're outfitted properly that stops mattering. There is nearly NO residual heat when you cook. That means the kitchen stays nice and cool in the summer. Cool surface means spills clean EASY. There is nearly no risk of an accidental fire, and there is NEVER a chance for a gas leak.
Compared to standard electric cooktops, there is no comparison.
Induction cooktops are more expensive, no doubt. If you can swallow the cost, you will NOT be disappointed. I don't want to go back to traditional electric or gas.
One more plug for this specific unit, after about a year of lots of use, much of it with non-enamled cast iron, my cooktop still looks great and has no scratches.

A Great Choice

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We decided on induction after much research and reading. The GE seemed to be the clear choice. We are very happy with the cooktop overall. Both of the previous reviews have much merrit. The performance is really GREAT.......... The lack of "room heat" is very nice......... The overall look in our kitchen is very appealing........ The speed of heating and the infinite control is WONDERFUL!! The "touch" does leave something to be desired. I find that dry fingers work better and a "firm and deliberate touch" seem to help. The placement of the controls could have been better but you get used to it. And yes, the outline of the "burners" is hard to see....... but that same issue adds to the beauty when it is not in use. I will never go back to either gas or traditional electric and I would say that GE has made a really good start in this new (to the USA) way of cooking!!

LOVE induction cooking

Love the cooking performance of this cooktop. The H setting boils water super fast, the low setting is great warming and love the instant change from high to low and the 16 heat settings. And no hotspots (I use Chantal and All-Clad) and get beautiful browning that I have not been able to achieve since my last gas stove. A surprise is that you cannot use a pan a lot smaller than the cooking element, so we are tryiing to figure out how to use our small sauce pans and how to use the large element for more than on large pan. Only complaint is that the settings buttons are easily turned on or off, so it is easy to accidentally turn off cooking and it is annoying when you accidentally turn on an element and it beeps a warning. There is a control setting, but it is not helpful while you are cooking. Miight e better if controls were on the side. Other compaint with this unit is that the back two burners are very close together. I chose this for the large front burner, but was surpised at how I have to play around with fit if I need to use both back burners. It would also be helpful if there were silicone accessories for covering burners during cooking so that pans do not scratch the surface or slip off center. We are using newspaper, but that can cover some of the controls.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my first experience with induction heating. It is fast and responds quickly when adjusting the burner temperature. It looks very sleek and is easy to care for. My only suggestion would be to make the burner markings more visible.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We replaced an old electric cooktop with this model and couldn't be happier. Just make sure you use cast iron or stainless steel cookware and you'll be set! Best cooktop I have ever used, hands down!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I always wanted a gas range but couldn't have one because we live in an all-electric home. I was so happy to find out about induction cooking and to get this cooktop. I love being able to simmer something all day and it is really simmering, not cooking at a full rolling boil. The only thing I haven't figured out yet is how to use my aluminum pressure canner. All-in-all, though, I recommend this appliance highly.
