Recently we purchased the CanoScan 8800F to preserve old 35 MM sllides. We have only begun using the scanner but it has so far performed as advertised. It appears to be easy to use and has produced very good pictures. We have also tried photographs and they were very good. My husband is a bit more adapt at using equipment but I have found it great.
Pros: easy to use
I would recommend this to a friend!

With my second purchase of a Canon product I truly find it hard to go somewhere else for quality image products. This scanner was so easy to connect and worked right out of the box, very fast a bit noisy however the images are very clear and clean. Excellent purchase.
Pros: Fast Connectivity, High resolution, High-speed scanning, easy to use
Cons: a bit noisy

Canon really hit the nail on the head with the Canon CS8800f. I did research on many different brand names and styles and found out Canon being the best. I bought it because of the quality, fast speed, and the high resolution for photos.

An excellent scanner, super reliable, and usable with several different computers having several different operating systems. We scanned all of our family slides from the 1950's through the 1970's. The slide attachment that covers the excess glass worked great! Now we are starting on old photographs, with excellent results.

Sorry I wasted my money, giving it to a company that would prefer to relegate a functioning piece of equipment to the recycle bin rather than keep their software current.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

CanoScan 8800F is magic!

My wife gave me about 100 35mm slides to put on a CD. These slides were made between 1957 and 1974. Most were in pretty bad shape. After some research I found the 8800F. One particular slide stood out. The color had faded as to make the slide look about 75% transparent. It was badly scratched and dusty. I though there was no hope. With two clicks the color was completely restored and the scratches and dust disappeared. After some fine tuning the slide looked new. This scanner has a very friendly user interface as does photo editing software. My results were staggering. My wife was very pleased. This is a great scanner. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a dedicated scanner not only for slide, negative film, and old picture restoration as well as those needing the various PDF functions.
Pros: durable, easy to use, Fast Connectivity, High resolution
Cons: Large Footprint, Slow-speed scanning
I would recommend this to a friend!

GREAT PHOTO SCANNER!!

I LOVE this scanner! I had purchased a dedicated photo scanner from another company because my all-in-one wouldn't scan with vista but it had horrible scanning quality. I did my research and finally decided on this CanoScan 8800f.
Some background...I am using this primarily for photo scanning to make photo book gifts to family. I am using PC with vista. I have NEVER written a review on anything before but I was compelled to "toot this horn"!
Upon intalling I had to get the updated driver from canon without problem. (Am used to this with Vista.)
I started scanning pics and LOVE that the software can detect separate pictures, scans with one pass and then crops, transferrs and saves each picture in their own consecutive IMG_0000.JPG number! This is a real time saver when you are scanning hundreds and hundreds of photos.
I absolutely LOVE the speed of this scanner too...what took me 10 - 12 hours with previous competitor unit now only took me 4 hours!!! After the scanner passes one time to scan the image(s) and by the time you open the lid, remove the pictures, stack them up, lay out more pictures and close the lid, the scanner has already identified the number of images, cropped them, transferred images, saved them to disc and I could simply click the "Save" icon again! This really makes the "routine" go smoothly without sitting and waiting and waiting and waiting!
The foot print of the scanner is in deed a bit large but with the projects that I have in store I would rather have a larger scan surface that identifies and separates the images.
Also...I am scanning numberous pics to individual "year" files for ease of sorting. This unit automatically continues to scan into the same file until I switch it. This was not the case with other units that I investigated. Some other units you had to tell each scan where to file it. Also, another unit I researched stored the pictures in reverse...this one does not, it stores them as you scan them.
My only MINOR glitch...I tested four pieces of paper to identify the pattern of recognition for each of the 4 photos I would scan because the order of the photos is important for a sequenced file to import into my book making program. The usual scan picked up the pictures from Top Rt, Top Lt, Bottom Lt, Bottom Rt....BUT randomly, the bottom two images would be reversed and I would have to relabel them. I called Canon and their engineer couldn't give specific reason...BUT this is easily fixed by only scanning three pics at a time. If order is not a problem then go up to four and scan away...
The only other SMALL negative is that yes indeed the hinges could have been a bit better but I have no problem with raising the lid the 80-90 degrees while I remove and reset my pictures.
Therefore, I give this unit a wholehearted 5 stars.
Pros: durable, easy to use, High-speed scanning, Fast Connectivity, High resolution, software detects crops stores images separately
Cons: Large Footprint
