I have had my 8800F scanner for around one month. The ease of operation, speed and quality far exceeded my previous HP scanners.

Mighty fine!

From scanning old B&W and color negatives from so long ago-with the backlighting system on the lid. Plastic trays are used to hold negatives and they are smart and easy to use, time and again. Quality of image at 600 is I guess as good as it gets since the old images (what I mostly work with photos-postcards on it) only have so much clarity to start with. Excellent value for me with the regular scanning alone. Add that to the ability to turn most any negative into a real image on my screen & from the printer. My very own development lab! Having this ability will indeed give you a few more wacky images for your Face Book page from back when too. Software is intuitive. Value for dollar spent is beyond there and only reason I did not rate a five for quality is because I have only had it a year or so. Highly recommend just taking the time to read the operators manual, just once.
Pros: Fast Connectivity, High resolution, High-speed scanning, easy to use, old negatives come alive in real images
Cons: Large Footprint

Just what I needed

I'm being asked to review this scanner because I just registered it along with a new Canon product even though I've had it several years. I bought this because I needed to copy a lot of pictures and a lot of slides. it will copy three different sizes of slides and it wil do both negative and positive B & W or color. Also it will copy several pictures at a time and separate them so you can do one or several at a time. It met or exceeded all my expecations and even though I've got a new Canon wireless printer/scanner/copier which works great, this one can actually do more

Exceeds Expectations

The bottom line is I'd buy this unit again. In order to significantly gain features there was a big jump in price. Since I use the 8800f primarily for family archival genealogical scanning, I couldn't justify $500 or more for a scanner. I especially like the fact that a scan of four slides can result in four separate files, since rarely are the slides I scan subject or date related. However, I do wish the scanner were able to scan twelve slides and save each to a separate file. This scanner supplements and upgrades my multifunction laser printer.
Pros: Compact Design, Fast Connectivity, High resolution, easy to use

I have scanned 100's of very old (30year +)color slides and have been very satified with my results just using the Cannon software. (Have not gotten around to trying the PHOTO STUDIO ELEMENTS that came with the package.) Scanner is easy to use. Great results.
Pros: easy to use, Fast Connectivity, High resolution, great value for the $$$

The only thing I wish Canon would change is to add a second 35mm flim strip holder with the scanner. Otherwise, it is wonderful.
Pros: Fast Connectivity, High resolution, High-speed scanning, easy to use
Cons: Large Footprint
