Best Scanner I've Ever Had!
on February 14, 2009

I bought this scanner based on Canon's reputation, and the fact that I had over six thousand 35mm slides begging to be scanned. The reasonable price didn't hurt either. I love it!
It does a beautiful job with my slides and negatives, and also with everything else I need to scan. In fact, I've started using my 30-year-old SLR again (taking more slides), instead of my digital camera. The digital just can''t compare to the color and resolution I get from my Canon. And I like the fact that it doesn't get my slides and negatives hot.
It is so fast on documents, at 300-1200 dpi, that the first time I used it that way, I thought it had malfunctioned. And that high speed, makes the preview scan something I always use.
Pros: durable, High-speed scanning, Fast Connectivity, High resolution

Great!

Just received mine and software setup and operation was a complete breeze. No probs whatsoever.
I primarily needed it to convert 35mm slides and in the few I've done so far I am very impressed with the quality. I use PhotoShop and not the Photoshop elements so I can't comment on the "elements" software - but it works flawlessly on PhotoShop.
Pros: durable, easy to use, Fast Connectivity, High resolution

The 8800F has worked wonders with my negatives, pictures, and slides. Many of the slide are from the early 60s and my family has enjoyed "visiting" the memories again. The speed of the scanning has not been a problem and the editing software is easy to use. I am satisfied with my purchase and highly recommend the CanoScan.
Pros: easy to use, High resolution

Surpassed my expectations

I purchased this scanner to replaced a competitor's scanner that had done nothing but give me problems, particularly with software conflicts. My son let me experiment with a portable Canon scanner as a possible replacement. When it worked flawlessly, I began researching Canon scanners. I wanted something faster. Based upon the reviews, which were all very good, I purchased the 8800F. I am amazed at the speed at which it scans. I had to do some testing to learn some of the subtleties of the software. Now that I have done that, I can do my projects more efficiently than ever. In considering this product, forget the "large" foot print. I only checked that because it is a tad larger than the other two scanners I have owned. It should not be a problem if you already have room for a desk top machine. I am extremely pleased with it.
Pros: easy to use, High-speed scanning, Fast Connectivity, High resolution
Cons: Large Footprint

Great for slides

Have been using this scanner about three weeks. I have searched for a long time to find a scanner which would produce quality scans of 35mm slides. Slides were taken during the 70s. Colors, clarity, etc. are great. An insert holds four 35mm silides at once. Average time per slide is about a minute each. Software provided allows quick editing of brightness, color, hue, etc. The automatic settings usually are quite sufficient. I am tickled pink with the CanoScan 8800F.
Pros: easy to use, great results
Cons: Large Footprint

Homebound, I depend on my Mac to handle financial transactions. My Canoscan 8800F makes scanning documents to e-mail a breeze. Recently my hard drive got fried in an accident. My Canoscan drivers, MP Navigator and manuals were lost. I have just downloaded the (updated) drivers and manual from your site to my new Mac. THANK YOU CANON, for a superb piece of equipment that is a dream to operate but, even more, for such excellent support.
Pros: Compact Design, durable, easy to use, High-speed scanning, Fast Connectivity, High resolution, great support
