WARNING!

Careful. No roomba works on dark surfaces. I had a roomba and then bought a new living room rug -- a patterned oriental rug that has a lot of navy blue and black in it. I was told by the i-robot company that the reason my roomba is not working is that none of them work on dark surfaces. I have not seen that warning anywhere in the product literature -- because it was more than 30 days since I purchased my roomba they refused to refund my money. I wonder what else they are not being forthright about?
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I just bought the 530 at a friend's recommendation. The absolute first thing that impressed me was when it went behind the recliners in the den - it is such a pain to move the chairs and table from away from the wall to vacuum and Roomba just gets all around everything. Wow! I have two cats - one is long-haired and sheds everywhere. The Roomba has no problem picking the hair up. I also have oriental area rugs in all of my rooms and Roomba goes right over them with very little difficulty. I am so thrilled with this product that I've just ordered a Scooba and can't wait to get it. Thank you folks at iRobot!

Cons: Can Get Stuck, Does Not Clean Stairs, Loses Charge Quickly

OK, I am one of those guys to whom "housework" is a four letter word. As a divorced man (why? see above) who shares his living space with 5 other creatures who don't clean....2 dogs (Corgi), 2 cats (Alley) and 1 foul mouthed parrot (African Grey)....my Roomba has been a godsend. With fur, feathers and dust everywhere we have put it to the test and it has passed with flying colors.

Makes more of a mess than it cleans up

This robot is okay for hard floors and does a decent (not stellar) job. But if it goes over any kind of area rug (thin or thick) it dumps a bunch of dust and debris. I have contacted roomba for this and they sent me new "guts" for the device (complete insert) and it does the same thing, so I'm assuming this is a design flaw...it makes the roomba useless in a room that has any kind of area rug.
Pros: Cleans hard floors
Cons: Can Get Stuck, Frequent Maintenance, Noisy
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[...] the best! Even in crowded rooms, [...] just spreads out and does his thing. He's very quiet and I never have to help him. The dirt trap is great and everything just falls out of his rear when cleaning him. It's amazing how much he can fit in there!

Too much work to keep running

I bought my robot and then another for my elderly mother. Initially they were fun but the constant calling for attention to keep them running got old fast. The longer you have it the more it calls. Now they tell me the 9 error can't be fixed but they can send me a new one without a battery (need to move battery from old unit to new one) for [$]. and won't even charge for shipping and handling. I don't think it is wise to throw good money after bad. I'll try to keep the one running with supplies and parts from the other then I'm done with Roomba.

I have a small home, thought it was quite an extravagance. I just love it. It picks up our dogs hair so well. Would hate to be without it after just a month of use. Love my son and daughter-in-law for giving it to me.
