Works perfectly.

The printer is able to quickly and efficiently print out the documents without any problems. This is really important in our household, where documents and essays are constantly being printed out. I would recommend this printer to friends and family.

FRUSTRATING!

While I find the quality of the printing to be ok for what it is, I am frustrated beyond my limits with the process and expense of replacing the cartridged. I found I was replacing them very frequently so I checked into buying refillable cartridges. The refills worked fine but of course Epson wants you to pay ten times more for theirs so they have devised an ink monitor system that shuts down the system, with no manual override, if it thinks you are out of ink or using a non-Epson cartridge. Even if you are using epson cartridges it will not operate if it thinks you are out of or just low on any one of the colors. I would be perfectly happy to let my colors get low and print my documents in black but it won't let me do anything! Ready to chuck it out the window!!!

The printer works great. It is a compact size and therefore doesnt take up that much space. One thing that I had to get used to is where to place the material that you want to copy. You need to place down in the in the lower right margin. Took me a couple copies before I cld figure that out. Probably wold help if I read the instructions first.

Epson Stylus NX230 - an adequate machine
on July 9, 2014

I have been using this machine, Epson Stylus NX230, for a little over two years now and have become accustomed to some of it's quirks.
For the money I paid, I think I got a pretty good deal. (It was on sale, and the "last of the litter" as it were. I think I probably got it at cost so they could clear their inventory.)
However, I've had to make some compromises that prove the old adage, "You get what you pay for." I have seen reviews that indicate printer manufacturers are now producing low cost machines and making up the difference in cost by gouging the price on ink. This machine seems to bear that out. (Yes, I've explored DIY cartridge refilling, but they don't lend themselves to that very well, and I have yet to find a company that can do it for me, not even Epson.)
First and foremost, this machine is an inkoholic - - even in "draft" mode - and the stuff is NOT cheap! I often wonder if a more expensive machine might have had a total operating cost somewhat less. Although I barely print a ream (500 pages) a year, I'm spending over $100 a year for ink.
Speaking of ink supply - it is apparent that this unit was intended for the "casual" user, not someone who has a high volume print need. One of the major issues is that the user has to run the "clean print head" maintenance anytime the machine has been idle for just a few days. Otherwise, the printout is spattered with "holes" - places where there ought to be ink but has none.
Although it is almost always the "black" cartridge that needs cleaning, EVERY cartridge is cleaned at the same time, there is no other option. This is a costly waste of expensive ink. If one runs the diagnostic tool, it almost always indicates that only one color, sometimes two, need print head cleaning. But, as I said, you can't clean "just one" ("cleaning" means running ink through the head). Then there is the fact that all four colors are used in any print operation, even if only one is required. Apparently this a futile attempt to ensure none of the print heads dry out from disuse. On the plus side, if the black ink is running low you are presented with an option of using the other colors to make the black last longer.
My most annoying issue has to do with printing in black. I have two choices when printing documents: I can select an all blue font and avoid using black, or I can clean the print head every time before I print a document that uses black ink. If I fail to do either, and I'm printing anything in black, it is "as if" a random selection of dots are clogged intermittently - making the document almost impossible to decipher.
I use the flat bed scanner about as often as I do the printer - and I am very pleased with that. The only annoying problem with the scanner is that it won't scan a full 8.5" width - you have to decide which margin to crop when scanning. It's only about 0.1 inch, but that's still annoying when scanning something larger than 8.4 inches wide.
I don't use the fax capabilities, so cannot address that - like many people today, I don't have a "land line"
The Wi-Fi feature looked nice, but, again, I don't have the facilities to use it. Sadly, a printer cable did not come with - fortunately my old printer cable was usable.
I rarely use the photo-copy feature of the scanner, but when I have used it the results were satisfactory.
Printer Cleaning: Epson sells a paper for cleaning the rollers - it's difficult to determine which to order, but I have used S041150 (A4 210 X 297 MM) with good results - you need to run it through twice though, right side up and up-side down - and (because I don't do it often enough) I usually run it through both ways several times, until it stops looking dirtier.
Would I buy this printer again? Probably not. Would I buy another Epson product instead, probably so. This is the third Epson printer I have owned and each of the others served me well - until I "loved them to death" .

Won't Print

I've been nothing but frustrated with this printer. After I my first set of ink, it won't print, or prints just a few selected things faintly on a page. I've changed the cartridges twice now for troubleshooting to no avail. Cleaned the heads, realigned them...spent time looking online to troubleshoot further several times (that's why I'm here).

Piece of junk. Just purchased new ink cartridges, but it says I'm still out. Old cartridges were not empty. Don't make my mistake and waste your money on this hunk of junk. Price was too good to be true. Now I know why.

Easy to set up, seems to work well with both Windows 8 and 7. No complaints so far, however would have like a different style paperfeeder. Never have liked when the paper is stacked upright,.

NX230 Printer

This is a great printer. I have had it for a while and I use it everyday. It is fast and using the 125 ink I get everything done in no time. I'm very happy with this printer and I would definitely buy another. If I knew it would be this good I wish I had bought two. One for home and one for work. The wireless setup was easy and the printer was found right away.
