Digital Touch Pad / Control Panel doesn't work

The microwave cannot be used due to the insensitivity/malfunction of the touch screen. Fan and light work properly. Everything is fine except for the touch screen, so I can't reset the clock and use the microwave.
It is ridiculously expensive to replace the GE control panel (Part #WB07X11143), especially if you need to call a service to do it for you. The visit and diagnostics service alone is very $$$, plus labor and parts. In the end, for that amount of money, I could buy TWO new microwave ovens.
Please share your experiences to find a reasonable solution to this common malfunction.

In my opinion, it is not acceptable to ignore a well-known problem with malfunction of the control panel and keep ultra high price for replacement part.

KEYPAD DOES NOT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I could give this product a rating of negative 100 I would cause this microwave is not worth the price. Have used the microwave rarely and in no time the keypad stopped working. For such a unit it should work well and with the known reputation of General Electric one would think that the appliances would work exceptionally well for a long duration of time. This shows that the quality is declining and that a switch to a different appliance brand NEEDS to be taken into consideration. THIS MICROWAVE SHOULD BE RECALLED

Purchased this microwave along with three other GE Profile appliances for a kitchen renovation. Started having issues with it 4 months after it was installed. It stopped heating food even though the turntable ran, and the touch pad stopped illuminating. We finally, after trial and error, got it to start heating/cooking food again, but for the past 5 years, have had a dead touchpad.

Another touchpad failure

Bought this microwave 6 years ago along with GE Profile range, dishwasher, washer and dryer. Dryer was repaired 4 times after just two years. Now the microwave touchpad is failing. I will never buy another GE appliance again!

Touch pad stopped working then started working. Microwave not giving off heat. Now touch pad doesn't work again. GE profile frig is junk too. Can't wait to switch brands. Should be a recall based on similar problems.
