Great Camera

The S5-IS is a great upgrade from the S1-IS. More optical zoom, features and Mega Pizels. We like the rotating screen for getting the shot over the heads in a croud, and getting us both in the picture using the timer. We had the remote and took more pictures where we were both facing the camera with the S1, wish there was a remote for the S5. More mega Pixels but we are back to running to get in the shot, or handing our camera to strangers.
Still the best camera we've had to date. On auto or manual settings Great Camera, Great Pix.

Best Camera I've Owned

Love this camera, the opt- zoom is great and the picture quality is very good, the adjustable angle LED has me hooked, and I like the "AA" battery usage instead of a "battery Pack"..and I ordered and received today the Canon
SX1IS and looking foward to the higher Zoom and being
able to shoot with "RAW" setting.

Great Camera....

I am a Mac user and found most digital cameras were not Mac-compatible. This one is not only compatible, it's an awesome machine. When I found I could stand in a completely darkened room and come out with crystal clear images, I was won over forever. I've always been a Canon fan; way back from the 35mm days. :)
I will say that it is quite a heavy little thing. However, it's powerful and worth the weight and price.

Great camera for Outdoors

Great Outdoor or travel camera. This Camera takes Great outdoor pictures, but Poor photos with flash or inside lighting . I love this camera but I am thinking of getting an external flash. Canon needs to make additional lenses and filters easily available for this camera .... the lens cap is a joke. I would recommend this camera if its for Outdoors

Great Camera for the money

I purchased this Camera for a replacement to an A-75. Being able to take snap shots while in movie mode is a real plus to me. The zoom has more punch than most. Pictures are very good but as any digital camera if you have the shakes or someone is moving the pics can blur.
Reading the manual is a big help for understanding which setting to use for condictions. A lot of people think the lens cap is no good but I have hit the on button when not wanting to and the cap falls off to pervent any damage to the lens. I would recommend this camera to anyone who wants good pics and movies. Battery life is good if you use 2500mAh or better.

A Wonderful Camera. Not a point and shoot

I used to shoot weddings with an old petrie series 7 and set aside my camera after shooting a double. Vowing never to do that again I got a simple digital a few years later and my wife and I had fun with it. She now controls that nice little jewel. I wanted something that fit better in my XL hands. The S5IS has fit the bill nicely. I like a camera with some weight to it. I want to know it's hanging around my neck and that when I go for it my fingers will go to the right buttons and I'll get that shot. I use the view finder more than the screen but it is good to have all the options.
I carry a small tripod and will use the timer to get me in the shots. Don't do it that often so a remote would just be another thingy. There are many functions on this unit and I am still exploring. Figured out how to shoot black and white the other day. I rarely use a flash but will be getting one for the hot shoe at some point. So far the one on it has worked well enough.
Going to get a mount for my big motorcycle so I can get some shots of our riding group or a video. That sounds like double fun. Ridin' and shootin'
