Turns off and wont turn back on
on October 6, 2017

This AVR has a stupid "feature" where it turns off if there is not sound for 5 minutes. the only way to turn it back on is to push the power button again. so, if you pause your movie to go make some popcorn or something, the sound is going to be off when you come back. and there is no way do disable this "feature", horrible design!

Great sound, old fashioned menu

I bought the avr1510 a couple of months ago. I think it looks good and has a great sound. But there are some things I'm less happy about.. The menu is really old fashioned, like the VHS players back in the 80's. When using dlna streaming, scrolling in the menu is frustrating, it's slow and doesn't do what you want it to. So I was hoping for an update from Harman Kardon, but I'm not sure this will ever happen.

Thank you for your review, our AVR receivers can do 2 or 5 channel stereo modes. You can disable the center channel on the menu and that will give you a 4 channel stereo

Very good first impression

I bought and installed the receiver yesterday to replace my AVR125. Pros: HDMI connectivity (works and is easy); The setup and configuration of speakers; VERY lightweight; Looks good, sounds good; lots of preconfigured sound algorithms available; factoring in price around $300 gives it excellent value; a little bit MORE POWER to the speakers. All other things remaining the same with my setup, I'm listening at about 5db - 10db less than my old receiver.
Cons: Spring clip connections for centre and rear speakers seem cheap - had a little bit of trouble with 16ga wire fitting; no manual eq.; remote control could be better designed (similar style buttons and plain layout make it tricky to find common functions)
Indifferent: The HK AVR1510 sound seems to be brighter, clearer, sharper (colder?) than my old AVR 125 (warmer?). Still playing with crossover frequencies to adjust front speakers/sub; crossover frequencies set at 20Hz intervals - my speaker range landed right in the middle, so there is overlap of front/sub frequencies - which needs time for listening and adjusting.
Overall - Great value receiver. Easy setup. Nice crisp sound. Not made for the user who likes to tweak/tinker with all sorts of manual settings. But there are a lot of pre configured functions and built-in features (auto detect sound, etc) that make it very user friendly.

Crystal Clear and Powerful Enough

The sound of this AVR is crystal clear and powerful enough despite of the weight and wattage. It can really bring out the minor details in low and high frequencies especially when you use super high end optical cables like Transparent Audio or DH Labs. The only flaw that I identified is actually the power cable is built in and there's no option for me to buy an audiophile grade power cable from Audioquest or Transparent. The plastic build is also feels cheap that's why I placed it where guests can't touch it or see it with good lighting that will show the cheap plastic textures.

I really like the look and sound of this stereo. The only small issue is that it's not the easiest to set up and program. Seems like there has to be a beteer way. I am finally learning my way around the different setup screens on the display.
