Ample high heat power

I bought this cooktop to replace another glass top electric cooktop that was at least 20 years old. The cooktop was installed in a Corian countertop and I found that the hole size was too small for most cooktops by other manufacturers, and I did not want to risk cracking the countertop by having a bigger hole cut out. So I was essentially limited to GE cooktops. But I was glad to find that there were various GE cooktops that had high power output and were priced reasonably. I also was glad that the GE cooktops were not too deep since I wanted to continue to use the drawer that is under the cooktop. Many of the other brands would have forced us to stop using that drawer.
Our old cooktop had two "quartz halogen" burners that we liked for their immediate full on capability, but I found that no manufacturer seems to make that type of electric burner now. We've found that the ribbon burners of our new cooktop, while not quite "instant-on" like the halogen burners still heat up in just seconds. I wanted a good "power boil" feature so that we wouldn't have to wait around to boil a large pot of water for pasta or potatoes. The "power boil" dual-size burner of our new cooktop does a great job of boiling quickly when the full larger-size setting it used with a big pot. In fact, the "high" setting of all of the burners is so hot that my husband keeps burning the food that he cooks because he is not used to the higher total power compared to our old cooktop.
My husband likes to cook pancakes with an old family recipe, so I thought that he would enjoy having the "bridge element" to enable him to use a large griddle and make lots of pancakes at once. I found a good non-stick griddle pan with a flat bottom and my husband found that the bridge element worked well for that.
Some reviewers complain that glass tops are hard to clean. The situation is really just that the shiny smooth black glass surface shows grease spatters and water spots more easily than other surfaces. These people were actually just used to leaving their old non-glass cooktops more dirty. On the other hand, the smooth top means that there is no space under the burners to collect spills, so wiping it down is in that way "easier" than with traditional uncovered electric burners. The glass top polishes up nicely using the cleaner that it came with, but it does take a lot of rubbing in the case of burnt-on spills.
