Thank you for sharing your dishwasher experience, amayhew. I can only imagine how frustrating it is for the dishwasher to start by itself. Could you have accidently selected delay start? Did you experience a power loss recently? If the answer to either of these is yes, please press the start/clear button and that should reset the controls. I have some ideas that can positively impact your drying effectiveness. The “sweet” spot for water temperature is between 120-125 degrees (at the water heater) for the best cleaning and drying potential. Ensure you run the water in the sink until it is hot (like you do before getting in the shower). Don’t forget the rinse aid (it really makes a difference)! Using the high temp wash or sanitize can also improve cleaning and drying performance. Is the heater (inside on the bottom of the dishwasher) covered by a heavy mineral or calcium scale (looks like white spots on the heater)? If it is, start a cycle with no dishes in it. Once it has finished the initial fill, add 1 cup of white vinegar to the bottom and let it finish the cycle. You can also use these instructions (empty dishwasher cycle with vinegar) for unusual odors. I have found that running a few peels from citrus fruit in my garbage disposal (my dishwasher is attached to the disposal), also helps with smells. The water tight seal is amazing on our dishwashers (and keeps air from circulating), and leaving the door open until the interior dries out will help excess moisture evaporate.
