I love this camera. I have a very old EOS from the early 90s, every thing i have works with this unit. Also most of the features are the same or about as close as the can be. As per live veiw finder you might want to try a "powershot" for times when you would need that. Even my wife who is a Nikon person will not put down this carmera.
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, portable, good battery life, great for snow pictures

I'm not much of a photographer, but this camera makes me look like a pro. I also held up well on a trip through jungles in Costa Rica and I came back with lots of great photos.

Great DSLR

I am a beginning to intermediate photographer who enjoys photography as a hobby. This is my first DSLR and I think it is great. For the price, I don't know if you could beat it. The kit lens is pretty good quality for a starter lens. The camera is light weight and easy to handle. This is a great intro camera into great photography and will serve well past the beginner stage. I would advise getting a good case and another lens. For a second lens I would try to get a prime lens with a good aperture to help explore photography and the great pictures this camera can turn out. Overall I have loved this camera.
Cons: No live view (I don't mind this so much, but other people might) and not great in low light without flash for the kit lens

Canon SLR lenses

I have about 25 pounds of Canon lenses for my Canon F1 film camera. The EOS Digital Rebel XTi EF-S with the 18-55 is almost as versatile. It would be nice to have an adapter to use my Canon Macro and my 600mm mirror lenses with the EOS Digital Rebel XTi.

Canon EOS XTI

I recently received for Christmas a EOS Digital Rebel. This camera has been a blast to use. It is simple, but sophisticated at the same time. Has many good features for the price. The quality of the pictures are superb. I was able to use my other Canon lenses with it, which is a plus.
Pros: excellent image quality, Nice features/settings, Solid Operation
Cons: noisy

Great for the $

Excellent entry level SLR. Solid, great features. The one thing I miss going to an SLR is the flip out viewfinder. It's a nice feature that is missing from SLRs.
