What a horrendous hunk of junk

My first biggest complaints is that the device that holds the disk is extremely sensitive and has broken one disk already; I frequently have to take a disk in and out several times before it will play (which eventually cracked the inside of a disk which is now unplayable).
My second biggest complaint is that until I figured out how to turn off the device from communicating with my TV, it would sometimes take 20 minutes to get the sily thing to open. Wanna put a disk in or take it out? You'd think you would push the "open tray" button right? Nope - first you gotta switch it to BR/DVD setting; if the cable box OR tv is on, the device will keep switching to play TV sound through the stereo and not let you open the tray. So fricking annoying. Once I got the machine to stop being SMART, it only takes 5 to 7 minutes from power on to get the disk playing.
My third biggest complaint is the Sony no-service line. Wait on hold, then talk to some kid in another country who clearly doesn't give a flip if your device works or not. If you take too long, they will just make you reset the box which will require you to spend another 30 minutes to connect to the wifi and calibrate the speakers. If I hear "Sir, you must comply with my directions if I am able to help you" just one more time... because you're not helping me - you are just making me reset my system so you can hang up and work on your Average Handle Time - ugh.
I grew up on Sony - I loved Sony - for years and years and years, Sony was always #1 - after this device and the lack of service, it will be a LONG time before I even consider Sony again.

worst purchase ever

Excellent but let down by faulty wiring

This is a great looking home theatre system. It sounds great too
I have given it a 1 star rating because the system I purchased came with the wiring for the centre and left hand speaker switch over internally. This is easily remedied by ignoring the colour coding on the plugs but left me wondering what else could be wrong in the internal wiring
With such a basic fault, there cannot have been any quality checks prior to release and therefore cannot recommend it to a friend
On second thoughts I think 1 star is overgenerous

Pretty good

Easy to set up.
My music sounds great. It goes really loud.
I wish I could make a regular TV show as loud as my music. Like listening to a football game the system is not nearly loud enough. I don't know what else to do.

Can't by pass 4k signal

The other parts are good although some times HDMI input can freeze the machine, unplug is a easy fix.
The biggest issue for me is that it can't pass 4k signal through the HDMI input.
I have a SONY X900a 4K TV, but as x900a can't decode h265 itself, I got a Shield Android TV box to do the job. But if I connect the tv box to the HDMI input port of this blu ray player, no matter what kind of settings I choose, TV is still 1080p resolution. If I directly connect the box to TV, then it is 4k resolution.
The screen setting of this blu ray player seems be able to pass 4K signal through HDMI, but actually it can't...
If you want it to work as an AV receiver and also need 4K like me, then it is not your choice.
Luckily this one has audio return, so even the box directly connect to TV, it still can send audio to this blu ray player, but my tv is mounted on the wall and my HDMI is hidden behind the wall, just don't want to have a cable be seen under my TV, so need an extra HDMI wire behind the wall...

Nice Surround Sound!

This system has fantastic sound and plenty of low end response. I love the wireless rear speakers, Bluetooth capability and sleek appearance. It was a little on the spendy side, the automatic interface with Sony TVs could work a little smoother and I'm disappointed with the lack of iOS support for the near field capabilities. Overall I'm satisfied with this Blu-ray system.

Pretty good. Takes a while to boot up and the DVD player eject function is slow. Worries me a little since I had to return my last Sony surround system because the dvd player jammed on its own and couldn't be repaired.

Bad purchase

I bought my system last year and the player made it just beyond the year and failed. To start out I used it maybe 3-4 a month. It was always very slow and sometimes the sliding door would not open to allow you to load a disc.Eventually i got a power failure warning.I worked with Sony support and was told I needed to bring to an authorized sony dealer. I was quoted at $250 starting to make the repair which is almost half of what I purchase for the whole system. Gone are the days of manufacturing products that last. Sony used to actually make nice products but these are land fill bound
