INK GUZZLER

Initially, printer set up easily and made the wireless connection that I wanted. While going thru the features and familiarity I noticed the return tray feature wouldn't work properly and always had to restart after hitting button. To date I still have to close it up manually. After the first few days I lost wireless connectivity. Trying to reconnect was fruitless and ended up hard wiring so as to use it. In all these starts and restarts it consumed the original inks without even printing 5 pages. I had the foresight to have ordered replacement cartridges along with the printer, because I know that original cartridges are only half or less filled. After installing the new inks I reordered 2 sets of extra large capacity cartridges, because of the way this printer uses ink when it recharges every time it has to restart. I just replaced the first set of replacement cartridges today and haven't hardly printed 50 pages yet.
The features are nice for this model...if you can get them to work when you need them. If I leave the printer on and in ready mode, every time I go to print, copy or scan something...just to use it...it gives a failed message and has to be restarted...eating up more ink and time. If you're in a hurry to get something done, it's disappointing when you have to go thru this almost every time, but I can live with that. It's the cost of all the ink that has to be replaced that's most disappointing.
I've owned nothing but Epson printers for many years and this is the first one that has been a disappointment to me.

I love this epson XP-820 printer, especially the automatic 2-sided option. It was easy to install on our computer as well as my laptop. I even have the printer "App" on my tablet.

Not happy with main paper tray

Overall this printer is great. The only thing so far that I don't like is the main paper tray. You have to remove it and fill it from the back. It is very inconvenient, whereas all of my other printers I could load from the front. The printing performance is great, I haven't printed photos yet but for general printing it is better than my HP was. I would not buy it again just because of the paper tray but that would be the only reason.

Good prints, faulty machine

Set up was not easy and directions were vague. But I finally got it up and running and made about 40 fine art prints when the magenta ink cartridge ran out. I went to reload it with the ink that I ordered with the printer only to discover I had been sold the wrong ink cartridges. So I drove fifteen miles into town to exchange the cartridges for the right ones. I loaded the magenta cartridge and kept getting an error message that said the printer could not detect the cartridge. I loaded and reloaded it multiple times to no avail. I turned the printer on and off, unplugged it, disconnected it from the computer and it still wouldn't work. In fact, I got a general error message for the printer overall. At that point, I packed it up and drove back into town to return it. The quality of the prints was good but the printer itself was very problematic with no diagrams nor instructions identifying even the basic parts of the machine. The cartridge was difficult to pop out (and no instructions). In the end, the thing just wouldn't work. When I have more time to deal with it, I may pick up another one and give it another try. Maybe I just got a lemon.

Not user friendly. To much to punch in every time you need to do something on it. Like to have never figured out how to scan something to the computer. Kept giving me error message that it was not connected to the computer when I have been printing from the computer. To hard to find where it is going to save the item and to many settings to adjust every time.

Hard to use for older people

I find my new Epson XP-820 All in one Printer to be very difficult to understand. The printer is set up but it appears I am unable to scan unless I do so to the "Cloud". This XP-820 is very difficult to understand andcan't even find the downloaded "How to" disc on my computer. Definitely for young people who understand 'wireless' 'cloud' and computer applications.

Easy to set up

It was easy to set up but I had my son help me, nevertheless. Still working on setting up the fax. (Have it about a month) Really, really miss not having a manual to walk me through things. The photos turn out beautifully (which is why I chose the Epson). It would be good to give this review later on to give a more complete feeling. But, so far, it is good. If only I had a manual to check things out, I could be farther ahead with using more features. (I only use it with the computer). The single sheet, back-feed is very useful & nice to use after I figured that out. I have many things to still learn..like copying from the top, faxing, etc.. But I really like it so far.
