Worth the research

I did a little research on what I needed for at home application. Consumer Reports gave me a lot of great information. Reading reviews, good or bad were very helpful. I have yet to try and use the photo printing feature or the fax, but being able to copy an item without the computer is great. The two-sided printing option is great. I don't know why I haven't purchased this product sooner. My old printer was 13 years old and the ink was extremely expensive. The ink for this product is very reasonable.

Disappointing

After a year and a half, I have found XP820 very annoying & the ink is expensive. Ink problems because it doesn't have draft quality options for all B&W printings. The large black ink cartridge goes quickly & print outputs tend to have random ink smears periodically. Did all of the regular maintenance and print quality & cartridge setup/directions. Bought this printer w/iMac as was recommended to be best with Apple. At this time I would not buy Epson again.

Review of XP-820 printer

I have never been able to get this printer to print mailing labels. When I put in my avery labels and try to print from my Word Document template the printer always acts like it is trying to print on a CD disk and I cannot change the settings to plain paper. It's very frustrating to have to go to another office and use another printer any time I need to print labels.

Great all in one

The Epson Expression Premium XP-820 Small-in-One® All-in-One Printer is ideal for the home office. Although I don't use the fax capability, the scanner and printer functions are great. The fact that it can print photo quality images is a real plus. The photo quality is hard to believe from such a small printer.

Ink Broke

I don't do much printing, but ink is used too quickly & is way too expensive. Have wasted so much when try to do a photo, which comes out with blotches until I do the clean print heads. Once printed, photo is of clear, good quality, but who wants the frustration? Scanning is a major disappointment. For one thing, if I can Copy an old photo & have it touched up, why not when I scan? Also, not good for digitizing more than one photo as needed.

Should Have Been A Contender

For my personal use, I have trusted the HP brand. When I needed a new printer, I purchased an Epson XP 820 because it appeared to be much more durable and better constructed than the current HP models. My biggest disappointments are: 1) the inaccessibility of the paper tray(s) --they are too close together to load comfortably; 2) the difficulty in printing envelopes; and 3) the expense of the ink cartridges. I usually purchase XL ink cartridges, but Epson's are more expensive than HP. I will have to be conservative when it comes to printing out material.

Epson's Customer Service is the BEST

Imagine this, I call Epson when a new Expression XP-820 multifunction printer has problems with the paper feeder. After spending less than 10 minutes with their customer service, they determined it wasn't feeding properly, they made the decision to send me a brand new one WITHOUT having to mail the old one back. Now that's what I call great customer service!!!

Disappointment
on May 29, 2016

I am very disappointed with this printer. I didn't expect that the ink that came with it would be used up in a month. It often prints out an extra printed page, When I tell it to print three or four pages. I cannot print out than one page from the Rear Paper Feed Slot. On other printers I can do this. When I lift the lid to scan a document on the scanner glass, it seems very flimsy, So much so that I'm afraid I'm going to break it. Epson came well recommended, In this particular printer was highly rated. I would not get this kind of printer again.
