The printer is OK, does some strange things and takes forever to print. Not like my older epson. And it doesn't give me any notice when the ink is running low, like my other epson. So it runs out and you can't print until you put in another. Then I put in one new ink cartridge and it keeps asking me to put a new one in, and I have! I'm taking that ink cartridge back to the store, hopefully, they'll replace it and it'll work. Right now, I haven't been able to use my printer for a few days. And the photos scratch very easily. I don't know its the paper or printer.

Great printer with some deficiencies

Setup is easy and printing is great, BUT. Two areas are worth mentioning. First, when connecting to a wireless network -to type the password you are presented with a phone style to enter. That is, like the phone under 2 there is abc. You must continue to press to get to the letter (and if lower case you must press through twice to get to it. Annoying! They could easily give you s keyboard since it is graphical. Second, we have two wireless outputs: our regular at 5.0 ghz and a guest at 2.4 ghz. The printer only will work wirelessly with the 2.4. Hp does not have that problem. We have to switch from our favored one to the 2.4 if we want to print. That also is annoying, but the printer makes up for it in other ways. Get this printer, be annoyed a little, but print copy and scan like a champ!

I love my new printer. Very easy to use which is important to me. Beautiful color on photos. My only complaint is the ink uses up very quickly which surprised me. My old Epson printer did not do that.

CD/DVD Print is Awkward and Fails
on October 21, 2015

I own two Artisan 800 printers and use all their functions. The scanner/copier on these began to skew so I picked up the XP-820. All 3 printers work fine except for the skewing on the first 2. My BIG problem with the XP-820 is the CD/DVD function, as the disc does not always stay on place when printing. I just converted 3 DVD’s into coasters because of this. I find the entire disc printing process on the XP-820 to be very awkward compared to 800 series printers (that are no longer available). I highly DON’T recommend this printer if you want to print disc labels with it.

Epson Expression Premium XP-820

This is an excellent printer for everything. Although not as fast and efficient as the Artisan 837 which I ruined by inserting a disc beyond the limit. Get used to buying ink often unless you get the XL cartridges. And don't be fooled buy the "separate cartridges will save you money". Because every time you replace one, the printer will run through some cycle that will use up ink in all cartridges!! But I love Epson's photos and disc printing capabilities.

Not so good for copies

So far all functions seem to work well except for actual photocopies - very disappointing results. I also found that the directions say that you can print legal size from the bottom tray, but you cannot - you have to load them one by one from the rear and it's very time consuming. Since one of the main functions of an all-in-one is copying, this feature needs to be improved.

My first XP820 worked great for two months then crashed. Epson Warranty personnel replaced it promptly. This printer works great, faxes well and copies well. I use it with my iMac. Thanks to Epson for standing behind their product.

They have done better

I do not like this Expression 820 as much as I did the Artisan 835. The 835 had a tray that would come out and you could just put your cd or dvd on it and print. As most of my use for it is church, I print several hundred cds and dvds a month. This 820 you have to put it on a tray them push it in and so on. THen it prints very slow compared to the 835. I really wish I would have known they were going to discontinue the 835 and I would have bought a truck load for the future. As far as plain paper and photo, it does really well. I have always valued Epson over any other brand because of the quality of the print. I have nothing bad to say about the quality of the print.
