Pretty darn good!

My third Epson. Each of the previous ones (both Artisan models) lasted approx 2 years. The first, no fault of Epson; cat walked over automatic paper feeder too many times. The second began splashing all output with magenta ink & could not be repaired. Still, sought out an Epson printer and am happy with XP-820.
Small footprint. Nice quality of printed material, relatively easy set-up (although likely helped by familiarity with similar previous Epson software). Even automatically receives faxes while connected to old school land-line/answering machine.
As other reviewers have mentioned, though:
1. That lovely feature whereby the output tray automatically retracts stop working on second day. So disappointed, as for some reason it gave me such pleasure each time it tucked itself back in. Can still close it manually (but a little fearful that one day that feature, too, will no longer work.) The control panel stopped retracting on the third day. Dear Epson: Such nice little extras but better not to include them if not fully vetted than risk disappointing customers.
2. Have experienced one time the printer and laptop failing to communicate (wirelessly). Turning off printer, waiting a few minutes, and re-starting was enough to re-introduce them to each other.

Overall happy with purchase. Glitches relatively inconsequential other than concern that they preface others.

The Best

Great Printer for the money

I have been looking for another printer that would do CD/DVD direct printing and this one does the job--the 4x6 photos are excellent even being downloaded form the net -so far-so good

I have owned three printers in the last 7 years all three being of the Epson brand. for the price and output of the printers I decided to buy this new model XP-820 and give my Workforce 325 to my High school daughter. thanks for making a great product and I'll look forward to continued use of the brand EPSON..... :)

I bought this printer as my first printer. the set up was real easy, had no problems and it only took me about 15 min total. I will send out a amended review when I have used the printer for a couple of weeks.

Meets all of my needs

I was looking for a printer that had a flat top since I have broken the auto document feed guide on several printers. My next criteria was two sided scanning. Energy star rated was next. This printer met all of those criteria. Setup to my wireless network was easier than with the Brother MFC-J835DW which I am replacing.
This isn't the fastest printer around but it meets all of the other needs we have and its speed is acceptable.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Epson XP-820

I LOVE IT!!! It is so easy to use that it almost makes having to copy or scan things a pleasure. The control panel is easy to read and use, especially as I am not techno-savvy. I really like being able to send something from my files or the internet directly to the printer without the hassle of a cord to connect the two. I am an artist/craft-person doing embroidery and use my computer to make patterns from pictures and photos. I really appreciate the clarity of color and clearness of the print. Plus, the quality of an item that has been scanned and enlarged is extremely good, making it easier for me to create a pattern that is more exactly like the subject of the original.

Great but So So

Love the printer. The results are far better than expected. I use it for text, graphics, and limited photos. Have no true complaints about the printer or the output. The So-So comes with the ink. It doesn't last as long as I expected. I liked the designated black tank for most text but even the XL version runs out fairly quickly. The replacement ink is far less expensive than some of the competitors, but last less time.
I still am glad I purchased this printer and think overall, it is one of the best I have owned.
