This icemaker is a replacement for another Kitchenaid that finally wore out after 10 years or so. The design is not as attractive, it takes longer to make ice and it fills up much less of the bin. I still have two others of the older models in other residences both of which I prefer to the new one. While this new one is OK, if I had the choice to do over I would have paid the high price to get the older one repaired.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

6 months had to be repaired, 11 mounts had to be repaired,
16 mounts had to be repaired, the unit is not working now.
