The only issue I have is that at times, the ice can be a little "softer" than I would like. It does keep up well with demand and is fairly quiet when operating.

Bought one 15" 50 lb KitchenAid in February 2013, to replace a failed KitchenAid standing icemaker (similar). it is very loud when filling, louder than the older failed unit. But you decide; so far it has had its circuit board replaced twice; a fill pump replaced and the discharge pump replaced. Now it has a "fill system failure' (compressor/freon leak). If you like spending time waiting for repairman; these units are for you. Do not throw away those 99 cents blue ice trays.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
