(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) I had been using a Whirlpool ice maker for about 22 years before it finally gave out right before Christmas. We were having family over and needed a replacement very quickly. Our family has come to expect that we will have "good ice" for our gatherings and I couldn't let them down. I had read a lot of reviews and decided this would be a worthy replacement for our old unit. Luckily an appliance store near us had one in stock. We couldn't be happier. The build quality is top notch and the unit looks great in our kitchen. It's a lot quieter than the old unit and I have to believe it's more energy efficient than the unit it replaced. On Christmas Day we took advantage of the continuous ice production mode and we never ran out of ice. For normal use, the ice maker keeps a ready supply. I also like the integrated water filter and the automatic cleaning mode (haven't used that yet). Overall I am extremely pleased with this unit. I can only hope it will last as long as the unit it replaced.

We were told that it required a dedicated floor drain and water line. Much to our dismay, we had no idea that it would continuously cycle and make terribly disruptive bangs and noises. Now we know why hotels keep their ice makers at the ends of the hallways in a separate room. They run VERY hot too. Not to mention it was the most expensive Kitchenaid appliance in our home. In hind sight we would have installed this in our garage or pool lanai - far away from our living quarters.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

My only con: is wished they supplied a longer Drain hose.

As we struggled to get the first machine working, many people told us how problematic ice machines were, and that they were excessively noisy. We are very happy to say this machine produces great ice and the machine is not noisy at all. We have a large open concept living area & kitchen combined.
I highly recommend this product.
