Problematic Design!

After waiting months for the 2nd refrigerator to arrive, the 1st one being damaged as well as numerous calls to GE & the shipper to flip the doors so I could open them in my small kitchen space, this fridge has been a big disappointment! The only good feature is the textured bisque color! Aside from there being no light in the freezer & it's shelves stop 2/3 of the way back to protect vents, I presume, stuff falls off! Trying to get the temp just right without my stuff freezing in the fridge is tricky because of no independent controls! The fridge is quite spacious & much deeper than my 27 yr old side by side Whirlpool was, my kitchen is small & it's practically in the middle of my kitchen, oh well... However, given the other issues, the one that gave it my bad rating is a serious design flaw! Whenever you open the freezer 1st & "close" it, then open n' close the fridge door, bolo for the freezer becoming ajar without noticing it! It will always pop open, but is supposed to shut right away, but doesn't close a lot of the time! I've had my freezer items partially thaw out a few times now & have to always be vigilant about making sure it's sealed shut! It does this trick most of the time, but not always! Who can remember this *EVERY* time one opens the doors to this unit!? I had a GE repairman out within the 1st month, it did this trick repeatedly for him! He said it's the design & nothing can be done about it! Basically, I gave it one star for this main reason! I miss my Whirlpool that after 27 yrs developed an untrustworthy "repaired" freon leak! I would stay clear of this troublesome GE model!

While we're glad you like the textured bisque finish, we're disappointed to hear you have concerns with other elements of the design. We know this may be concerning, especially if you had to have a former unit replaced as well. We'd like to assist.

We apologize for any inconvenience associated with the freezer door opening when the refrigerator door is closed. This is an indication that there’s a good seal on the door, and if the door closes again by itself this is considered normal. If the door is not closing again by itself, you may need to adjust the leveling legs – these should be positioned so the front of the refrigerator is just raised enough for doors to close easily. If you need to adjust those leveling legs, they can be turned clockwise to raise the refrigerator and counterclockwise to lower it. More information on adjusting the leveling legs is available on page 11 of your manual, located here: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-60726-3.PDF .

We also regret you are dissatisfied with no light or temperature controls in the freezer, the unit taking up too much room in your kitchen, and the depth of the shelves. Not consumer friendly

Bottom bins to high. Shelves on door not adjustable. Freezer shelf doesn’t go all the way back. If you’re tall or have a bad back the top refrigerator shelf is useless and I’m only 5’6” tall.

Also, we use foam insulation in our new models which has excellent insulating capabilities and is very energy efficient, however, it's not as sound absorbent as previously used fiberglass insulation. Depending on the placement of the refrigerator in your kitchen, you may want to place a piece of rubber backed carpet beneath the refrigerator to help reduce the sounds.
