Display is a huge upgrade from the 635

Moved from a 635 when Cricket got the 640 in stock. The 640 feels great in the hand, isn't a black square like most of the stuff out there, and has fantastic battery life.
The camera upgrade is pretty big. You get a front shooter now, but the rear is solid. Thank god for the flash, the 635 needed one desperately. This phone only has one camera app, instead of both the Windows and Lumia ones on some of the prior ones. They kept the Lumia, good decision.
Best part of this phone, in comparison to the 635 or 520...the display. Great color accuracy...and Gorilla Glass. My favorite upgrade to this phone. The 635 was a fingerprint nightmare. The Gorilla Glass wipes off with ease. I like the 5 inch size, but I'm happier with the step up in quality and ease of cleaning.
I usually keep a couple of runner games installed, and they work fluidly. If you can handle the apps ecosystem, the 640 is pretty solid all the way around. Great display, solid camera, good build. Extremely happy with the purchase.

A huge step forward from my old Lumia 800!! Smooth operation, fast, good camera, and much better standby time. I am glad I sticked to Windowsphone after the 800. It is a very good device for a very reasonable price. And the promised Windows 10 upgrade is an extra bonus.

Big Bang for your buck

The phone delivers beyond my expectations and the feature set is more than adequate at this price point. It's smooth and fast moving. My only issue (and it's not that serious) is that it takes quite awhile to charge up especially while in use surfing the web or whatever. I would say it takes on average close to 4 hours to fully charge from 0 to 100. On a positive note, the battery life is very, very good which compensates for the long charging wait time. I highly recommend this phone for Windows Phone fans. I personally don't need a million apps and am well accustomed to Windows Phone as a a whole. I love it! If you are a hardcore gamer or use a ton of apps, then I would steer away from this. The most popular apps are present although slightly less advanced in some cases. Doesn't change the fact that I love this phone though.

A well designed phone with good hardware and bright, colorful screen. Battery life is quite good as are the improvements to the design of the phone over the Lumia 635.

Great for Windows Lovers

I wanted a Windows phone badly when they first came around but couldn't afford one. Later, we bought a nice Windows 8.1 PC. When I got my first Lumia 635, it was okay. It moved slow, booted me from websites, and the graphics processor was mediocre at best. However, I could transfer music, video, pics, files and just about anything between pc and phone with ease, especially with the help of the Windows phone app on the PC. However, this phone was lacking powerful functionality and became kind of a nuisance. I finally decided to upgrade to the 640 and couldn't be happier. All the great phone to computer functionality is still there, using OneDrive to transfer stuff was easy. The screen is much bigger and the overall design is slimmer and less heavy. The HD quality is superior, the internet functionality is a lot better and super fast, and the graphics are on key with my PC. Plus, you can actually buy nice cases for this phone and they fit! If you're a fan of Windows and Windows phone I would recommend this phone. It's also got great customization options.

Great budget Phone

I replaced my Iphone 5 with this phone, and am running Windows10 preview. The new OS is great, and the phone has some great pre-installed apps. The only complaint I might have is that being a budget phone, it takes a little longer to open apps. Once they are open and running though there are no speed issues. Battery life is exceptional, and I can always get through a whole day of heavy use without a recharge.

lumia 640 for the price is the best low/midrange phone there is.
it even beats the upcoming acatel ferice, and lumia 650 win 10 phones in processing power. there qualcom 210 vs the qualcom 400 in the 640.
it supports nfc, vpn, blue tooth 4.0, wifi calling, glance screen, double tap to wake and close. its fast, responsive, and scrolls smoothly. slap in an micro sd for up to 128 gb of storage. the battery life is very good and it's replacable. the screen and interface totaly custimizable with live tiles.and looks beautiful. using the lumia play to app I can stream video, music, and pictures strait to my home theater system wirelessly. it dose more than models 2 to3 times as expensive. the only down side on this phone is the front side camera it works fine for skype but the pictures are grainy in low light conditions. and lack of apps which should change.the 640 is one of the first to get the windows 10 mobile upgrade.
you can take exellent pictures with this device even in lowlight if you bother to use manual controls. the lumia camera software is top notch. features like rich capture and, lumia moments, are good for camera novices. and the lumia selfie app is great for using the 8 mp rear camera to take selfies. you cant go wrong with this device.if you hear complaints its because they got a faulty device or dont understand how to use it. better get em while they last.
