I love that Otterbox still makes a waterproof case. When I heard they were discontinuing the Armour Series I was pretty disappointed, but seeing what they have replaced it with my disappointment quickly fled. The case is a bit harder to open than the Armour Series, and because the closure is now plastic I am a bit hesitant to trust it, but I've had no issues so far. I do miss my metal clasps though. Overall, great case. It can take a fall from a 10ft ladder, keeps awful-ceiling-fiberglass dust out, and lets me respond to mission-critical emails whether I am sitting in the pool in Vegas, the shower at home, or even walking through a blizzard. It makes my phone rugged enough to be fearlessly included in my toolkit wherever I go, and for an IT guy that's one of the most important things it can do.
I do home inspections, so I am around pools and in attics all day. Without my Preserver Case, I would not have a phone. Yes, I have dropped my phone from inside the attic down to the concrete floor. The only negative are the access ports, in particular the charging port. Since I have to charge often the charging port is difficult to get to and the protective cover can come off which could get lost. Even still, I would not have any other product protecting my phone.
The case is well put together and protects the phone pretty well. There does seem to be a little bit of a gap between the screen cover and the screen and causes you to have to touch the screen a little harder than without the cover. The major design flaw for this cover for the s5 phone is that when you want to plug it in to charge the phone. The s5 has a flap that goes over the charging port and with the cover on you can not reach it with your finger and you need a little tool to pop open the charge port. I use a pen cap or you can use the tool that actually comes with the case, this tool is for when you take the case off and on but works good for that purpose as well. Its not tough to do but if you are traveling and do not have anything to open the charge port it could be difficult.
Pros: High quality, Durable
Cons: hard to reach charge port, screen cover not flat connection to screen
I do like this case a lot. The wrist piece did break on me randomly one day as I was using it. I was really happy that you guys sent me a new case though and it came quickly! Its a little bulky, but I'm not sure you could get any smaller with the same protection!
This case has been great so far, I work as a mechanic and I need a case that meets the demands of my job. This case exceeds those demands and then some. My job requires me to be out in the elements quite a bit and this case feels right at home, on the go or in the shop I never have to worry about my phones protection. However are certain features of the case that could become a problem later on down the road. Number one being the charging port is pretty difficult to access without the supplied tool that otterbox sends with the case. I feel like eventually this could damage the cover and/or the o-ring, and prevent the case from being waterproof. As long as you are careful opening the cover you can prevent this though. Number two is that on a couple of occasions, I have found that somehow the case became unsnapped. I had not dropped the case or had any type of impact that would have caused this to happen. Luckly i noticed this and pressed it back together, but I worry that sometime i may not notice and the phone will become damaged in the process. Number three, is the rubber around the front of the case is starting to deteriorate and I have only had the case for about a month. This is a fairly common problem for most phone cases that i have purchased, so it is not a big concern just something i noticed. Otherwise the case is solid, built to last and handle whatever you can throw at it for a price i feel is well worth it.
