Repeatedly breaks

I’ve had this refrigerator for 5 years. In that time, I’ve had to have it repaired 11 times for either it not cooling/freezing or the ice maker breaks. Horrible quality. I will never buy another LG refrigerator again.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Compressor shot for second time in 6 years

We bought this fridge August 2013 for the size and yes it is a beautiful appliance. BUT, a couple of days before Thanksgiving 2015 the compressor broke. We do have a little chest freezer that we were able to move all the meat into but it's not big enough to hold it all. We were able to keep some things cool in our little bar fridge also but we still had a lot of food spoil over this time - it was a pretty warm November and I couldn't keep things in the garage as it wasn't cold enough... We probably threw out close to $400 worth of food (remember this is right before Thanksgiving right after a lot of food was purchased for this specific holiday). Mr Appliance came to do the fix and charged close to $800 for their labor, they ordered the compressor from LG (because we were only 2 years into our 10 year compressor guarentee) but then we had to wait nearly 3 weeks for the compressor to arrive... So after paying nearly $2500 for the fridge, $800 for the labor and being out $400 worth of food that totaled up to $3700! Fast Forward to Thanksgiving 2019... Guess what happened? The compressor broke!! AGAIN!! ON THANKSGIVING!! Now we have a decision to make. Do we take the loss of another $400-500 worth of food, through out this stinking beautiful large fridge and bite the bullett and just get a different fridge while there's a few deals still with Cyber monday and have a new working fridge by the weekend or do we wait until Wednesday for the technicion to take a look, order the compressor from LG, pay another $800 and wait a month for the part to arrive and the fix to be made again just so that we can repeat the cycle in 4 years (when we are then no longer in the 10 year guarentee period for the compressor???
Pros: Style/Design

Verified Purchase:Yes
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Not happy with fridge. If you count the original compressor the fridge came with we have been through four compressors now the circuitboard has gone bad but should’ve been replaced when the first compressor was replaced or the second or even the third we’ve been without a fridge more times than I care to say.

This fridge has a lot to offer, but after three repairs in five years, the compressor needs to be improved. And after three freezer full loads of groceries lost, I just got a new fridge instead of another 500 repair fee.

This fridge is big, but some things to think about

We like the fridge, but there are a few items that you should be aware of before you purchase.
If you are used to having lots of room for 2-liter items that you need to keep vertical, this fridge is not the best idea. If the right-side shelf did not fold back into a half shelf, we'd have basically no space for 2-litter items. The fridge is huge, but even with the adjustable shelves it isn't practical for 2 liter items.
The icemaker is terribly small as well, so it's a good thing it comes with a tray so that you can pre-fill the tray with ice.
And finally, the "Slide n Hide" trays are absolutely useless. If anyone can come up with a use for them please let me know.
Oh, and my favorite bit of marketing - many photos you see of the french-door style fridges show a 2-gallon milk jug in the door. While technically it fits in the space shown, the manual that comes with the unit specifically calls out to never store milk in the door as items in the door will not stay as cool as the rest of the unit.
So overall are we happy we bought this thing - yes, but each time we open the right-side we are disappointed by how little space their is for the 2-liter items.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Could have been a GREAT refrigerator
on July 9, 2014

Every thing about this unit is great. Storage space, size, whispersoft operation, and more. The only problem is the center drawer in the freezer only sits on a side bar. It does not lock into anything. As a result, the center drawer continuously pops off the track whenever it is bumped by something in the lower compartment. This means you have to unload the center drawer, get it back on the track and reload the drawer. This could be resolved with a locking track system where the drawer would not pop off the side bar. When you try it in the store it works flawlessly, but then there is nothing in the bottom compartment for it to bump against. They could have done a better design.
Pros: almost the best.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Large Refrigerator

I was shopping for a larger refrigerator and this LG, at 32.5 cubic feet, is the largest available without getting a commercial unit. I suggest measuring the height of your kitchen space. You will need at least 68.88 inches clearance. I found this refrigerator to have plenty of room for smaller items. Larger items like milk and 2 liter soda bottles require folding a shelf back to half it's normal capacity. I still came up short on space for taller items. I will most likely end up removing the folding shelf to gain the needed space. There is room in the door for tall items, but the temperature is higher there. The cold cuts drawer requires opening both French doors. I would have made two half width drawers requiring the opening of just one door to access cold cuts. The temperature readings on the door LED are lower than the actual interior temperatures. I have a thermometer in both the refrigerated and freezer sections. I adjust the temperature to them instead. So far the icemaker has kept up to demand without any problems. The filtered water is chilled and tastes great. The freezer has two extra drawers for often used items like TV dinners. I found the drawers to be a great feature. I had no trouble finding space for large items such as pizzas. A bucket is included for storing extra ice cubes. The manufacturer's warranty is one of the best I have seen. The compressor is warranted a full ten years. I suggest purchasing an extended warranty due to the one year labor coverage. This refrigerator is a fantastic addition to any kitchen. If all the points I mentioned were fixed, it would get a full 5 star review.
