why pay for state filing e-return ?

after being a turbo-tax client for many years i dislike turbo tax charging extra to file a state return electronically...the state return should be filed electronically for no extra charge.

I have been using Turbo Tax -- Gee I guess since they started. I just have the standard Deduction (mortgage/state tax/charity/etc.). so it was no big deal. In 2011 I retired and got a company payout which maid my taxes more complicated. But I did not have any issues using Turbo Tax. I did purchase the Audit defense just in case.
What's great about it: Easy to use ----
What's not so great: N/A -- I haven't run into any issues.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Decent Program

If your taxes are complicated like mine, this program can be a big help. BUT, you still need to understand what you are doing. If you are clueless about your tax situation this can get very confusing...and the in-program explanations are not the clearest.
What's great about it: You need to know what you are doing
What's not so great: Not for the novice

Convenient for the family, good record keeping, frustrating help at times, good to have varied levels for varied needs, good to combine state and Fed.

I have used Turbo Tax for several years, and find it a quick and easy way to set up my fairly simple tax return. I don't worry about forgetting things, since I am asked all the right questions. I've recommended Turbo to several friends, and they also like it.
What's great about it: Walks me through

Filing taxes with Turbo TAX is quick and easy. Makes sure all the math is correct which is better than doing it by hand on paper.
What's great about it: Easy to use.
What's not so great: 1099-MISC seemed to get stuck in a loop

I have been using this Co. software since it was called Parsons Tax, it has gotten somewhat more complicated, but just follow the suggestions, & it'll work out just fine.
What's great about it: Just like setting down with your own tax prep
What's not so great: Some areas are hard to go back to
