I bought a copy of turbo tax that had a "free" state return. The "free" state return cost mt $29 and there was a processing/handeling fee that brought my "free" state and federal ruturs to $50 more than the original cost of the software.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: fees

Hi There, If you bought a CD version of TT with state included, you wouldn't have been charged for your first state. I think what you're referring to is a fee for taking your other fees out of your refund instead of paying directly with a credit card.

i wanted to try out turbo tax to run it against past returns done by my accountant. i found myself checking over the returns time and again because the numbers seemed like they were lower than they should have been. it took me hours to really get the feeling that the software was accurate in its numbers. i took away the 2 stars because i feel that charging for the state e-file is a complete joke, and that the way the product was advertised when i purchased it, i was under the impression that the state e-file was included with my product. i went back to amazon and even read the product description, and i still feel like i was mislead on exactly what i was getting with the product. personally, i don't like hidden fees because it makes me feel like i didn't have all of the information at hand when i made the decision to purchase the product. not sure i will go come back to turbo tax next year. for the amount i would pay for my accountant to take care of everything and file it for me, i don't think it is worth it to save the $30 from going through turbo tax to prepare my taxes. also, to do the state e-file, they were going to charge me $30 to take it directly out of the e-file, or i could just have them take the $20 off of my credit card. but...let's do the math...i pay $40 for the software, $20 for the state e-file, and then another $30 for them to take the $20 charge directly out of my refund. therefore, at the end of the day, i've spent $90 to go through all of this mess, when last year i paid $95 to have my taxes prepared for me, with a bigger refund. as i stated before...extremely disappointed by this whole process...and after writing this review, i think it is worth it to drop another star from my review
What's great about it: easy process
What's not so great: hidden fees

Everything went very smooth, no problems. I feel it was hard to contact Turbo tax with questions before starting and with order questions. Not really a serious problem.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: None

Filing the state tax was a nightmare and I'm still not sure it got e-filed !! You also need to be more up-front about how much it is going to cost to use and file the state form. It was sticker shock.
What's great about it: Federal tax form was good
What's not so great: State tax

It would be nice to print out pages in process while working on them to compare with last year or other documents. Otherwise it is great for entering data and producing results.
What's great about it: Easy to enter data
What's not so great: Can't print individual pages while in process
