Easy as pie

We have used TurboTax for several years and find it very easy to use. This software takes our hands and walks us right through. And what a deal!

Improvements needed

I've been using TurboTax for many years and it seems to me it used to be easier to get answers and support. It also seems to be more difficult to go directly to any section.

Easy to Use and Understand!

This is a great software that I purchased and has been my number one source for tax software for my family and I for over 5 years! It's remarkably easy to use and understand and covers every claim and write offs I need for my family and I. Please continue to be as easy and effective as you have been for us for many years!
What's great about it: I love how easy it the software is to break it down by what you can claim and directly input the results!
What's not so great: None.

Fed - OK; State - Poor

After generating all the Schedule A info, and using It's Deductable for charitible giving, it turned out that we were better off to use the standard deduction for Federal but to itemize for State. The resultant Turbotax file did not generate the Forms 8283 needed for my State submission. I had to generate a second Turbotax file, artificially using itemized deductions for Federal, in order to have the 8283 forms I needed to append to my State return.
Two of my dividends are from tax exempt funds. In previous years, Turbotax allowed me to specify which part of the tax exemption also applied to my state; this year it did not, so I was taxed on the total dividends.

What's great about it: Structured questionaire; incorporation of previous year(s) information; free Federal e-file.
What's not so great: State return did not include all approporiate forms or tax exempt calculations. State e-file costly.

saving returns

My computer crashed last Nov.,2012, I lost all my turbo tax info. I downloaded the previous year's tax discs(which I saved) and none of the info of my taxes were found on the discs. so I had to go to my printed info to fill in the blanks. So i wish the info would stay on the discs and encourage the customers to figure out a way to keep the info on the Turbo Tax Year CDs!! BECAUSE computers do crash!!!
What's great about it: easy to print
What's not so great: The return is not saved on the disc,
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

This was my first year doing my own taxes. While my dad helped, I did it myself and found out just how easy Turbo Tax is to use. I suspect I'm now a lifetime Turbo Tax user!
What's great about it: Easy first year filing experience.
