Not Sooo Great This Year

Not sure of outcome just hope it is right didn't have problems the last two years. 2nd time gave me a deduction on some kind of tax. Last time did'nt. Had problems with the State. Wouldn't transfer my husband pension info. Had to write a note and when I went back on the next day it was corrected.
What's great about it: how I was walked thru
What's not so great: Had to do over 3 times needed to go way back and wouldn't let me

Good product

Everything went well, except I would have liked to have a better explanation of the NC vs. Bailey settlement, since this ruling makes my wife's teachers retirement pay non taxable in the State of NC. I had to look deeper when I saw how much we would have if I had not caught this. Now I need to go back to our 2011 return and make the same correction.
What's great about it: easy to complete forms, have used it for many years.
What's not so great: better explanation of how retirement benefits are handled.

Have use TurboTax for many years. Generally, I like it. Sometimes, however, it makes decisions that could cost you money, most often by assuming something about you that is not correct or by filling in a blank with the wrong one of several possible numbers. Several years ago, this "feature" cost me a lot. You have to be vigilant.
Also, the instructions re printing have never been clear. They are better this year (for 2012 taxes), but still, the box you get when you select "Print" offers three buttons, none of which says "Print." You have to select preview. To my mind, "preview" does not equal "print."
Last, this year, after you file and print, there is no window that says you are definitely done with the program. You are offered the opportunity to sign up (or sign into) for automatic renewal, but if you do either, you get browser window, not a "Goodbye and thanks!" in the TurboTax window. The sense of worry that something else might need to be done is hard to shake.

Turbo tax is easy to use, quick to use, and always finds good deductions. It's even quicker if you have previously used it because it will gather the previous return's data for this year's return.
What's great about it: always quick and easy
What's not so great: embedded sales pitches for other items

Couldn't be easier!

With just the basic records handy any novice like me can file Federal and State returns in less time than it would take to drive to a tax preparers office, and the cost is a fraction of what a preparer charges. If there is anything that is unclear the additional information and expainations are just a mouse click away. This is an excellent product!
What's great about it: Asks questions I never dreamed of to get all the right information
What's not so great: None at all! Couldn't be easier, more complete or accurate.

No Sweat This Year

The best thing about TurboTax is that it is completely integrated, simple and predictable, picks up errors quickly, alerts the user to things he has forgotten, and provides a variety of reminders about what is needed next. The detail that could bear improvement is that it does not remember how the user prefers to work (with assistance or by selecting the forms for herself). It prompts the user for last year's forms (which is good), but it does not let her see what it is doing with the information. This is but a minor irritation. On the whole, it was a delight to use.
What's great about it: Speedy, Accurate, Transparent, Simple
What's not so great: Would be better if it remembered my preferences
