Turbo Tax is Amazing!
on March 18, 2013
Posted by: RebeccaZ
I have used turbo tax for 20 years. Before using turbo tax, I did my tax returns by hand and it was very tedious. After using turbo tax, I would never do my taxes any other way. Turbo tax makes the process of filing taxes stress free and easy. This year I had a tax question and used the call in feature of turbo tax for the first time to speak with a tax advisor. The tax advisor walked me through my question and was very helpful.
What's great about it: Guided me efficiently through the process
What's not so great: wait time of 30 - 40 minutes to speak with a tax advisor

TT is the best!

Turbo Tax is the best! TT suggested deductions I didn't even know I could use. I have been using TT for more than 10 years and it never ceases to amaze me - how great it is! They keep improving TT each year and I didn't even think it needed improvement. I don't know how anyone would want to do their taxes any other way!

Quick, Sure and Easy, Turbo Tax 2012
on March 18, 2013

I have used Turbo tax system for 8 years and never had any problems and it is so easy. Turbo will find deductions that you may miss & your return is triple checked for errors. When you are all done, Turbo checks one more time for any missed deductions and you know in a matter hours that your return is accepted. Refunds are faster.
What's great about it: Done and over in a hurry.
What's not so great: none

Another successful year with TurboTax

I've been a TurboTax-er for nearly 20 years. I appreciate being able to download brokerage statements. I am also a volunteer "TaxAide" for AARP, which uses a different tax program. TurboTax is much more user friendly.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Seems like too many updates this year

Excellent software, very simple q&a responses to guide one through the process. The only issue I have is that Turbo Tax places my 1099R for Refund of Excess Contributions to a company 401K in the wages and salaries column. I'm a "highly compensated employee" by IRS rules, and most years a part of my pre-tax contribution is necessarily refunded. Placing this refund in the wages and salaries column may be entirely correct, but in two prior years the IRS has contacted me for not reporting a "pension distribution" and has attempted to charge me additional tax and interest. on this 1099R amount. Each time I have had to contact them to dispute the tax and penalty. Fortunately, both times they agreed with my dispute, and I owed no additional taxes.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Improvements needed

Please incorporate a way to easily alphabetize the lists of various providers of 1099 forms. The same is needed for lists of charitable institutions to which donations were made. Not having this capability means that a user must constantly scan the entire list to find the one sought - or to determine that it is not on the list. We have wished this to have been part of the program in the past, but nothing has happened.
What's great about it: Questions are well phrased
What's not so great: There is no way to alphabetize lists. See below
