Never fails!

Works Pretty Good

I don't agree with the estimated taxes it generated for the state but there is no way to get to how the calculation was made or to adjust the vouchers. The federal gave me the chance to add estimated income and withheld taxes but couldn't find a smiliar option for the state (to enter withheld taxes, i.e.)
What's great about it: Step by step easy to answer questions
What's not so great: Difficult to find specific pages within the return without printing it out

2012 Filing Review

They keep working to improve the program and should be congratulated for this. It's always been a mystery how to take a SEP IRA deduction for self employed income. It doesn't ask the question, but should. Now you can go to the view forms section/IRA deductions and click on the "spyglass" to open the dialog box. There's an option for "auto calculate". You still have to hunt for this, but its better.
I exercised stock options, sold stock, had rental income and started a new consulting business. The deluxe version handled all of this without "upgrading"
Turbo Tax will "nickel & dime" you with upgrade requests and to download 1 extra state tax software package, it was almost as much as the initial deluxe version. This burned me a bit. However, the program is very complete and would be easy to use for a novice.

What's great about it: Step-Step is pretty much "dummy proof" for a novice. For advanced individuals you choose the "explore on my own" option
What's not so great: Some areas aren't intuitive and no live person to ask.

Great Product

After 20 years of having our returns filed prepared by a CPA, this year used Turbo Tax and was pleased about the ease of using this program. Since our tax situation has been simplied recently this is way to go for us.
What's great about it: Very easy to use. Liked being able to e-file

Frustrated and UnecessarilyTime-Consuming

Initially, TurboTax treated my husband's pension as an IRA, and it was extremely hard to answer the questions because they didn't seem to apply to our situation. Then when I answered the question about when the payments started, it wouldn't accept the format I used. I didn't realize that that it was my format that was wrong. I thought I used the wrong date. That could have been resolved if Turbo Tax had clarified what was wrong with my date. I had to go back and research records from 20 years ago, when it was simply a matter of using numbers, not words for months. I was fed up with TurboTax! This review has no boxes to check off for details for "Life Changes", and when it is prepared for sending, it puts in answers that I didn't check off.
What's great about it: We saved money by my doing our own taxes, using TurboTax.
What's not so great: Pension/RMD questions, and date Formatting

2012 Tax

I could not get a two year comparison. The 1099 data from 2011 would not copy to the 2012 program.
What's great about it: Easy to work with
What's not so great: 2011 Turbo Tax in pdf format would not call all the information to the 2012 Delux Turob Tax

unemployment insurance repayment problem

Had to manually adjust the Sched A worksheet (using forms) which then adjusted Sched A
What's not so great: The amount of unemployment ins entered as repaid is reflected as double on Sched A

Excellent ,easy, fast ,inexpensive process ..I plan to use TURBOTAX from now on!
What's great about it: I liked the prompts ..they make the process very easy
