Did a great job.

This was a cinch to do. Very easy to follow instructions and simple for first time users like myself. If you're filing a basic or normal return, come here instead of paying H & R or other scam places charging you almost 100 percent more to do simple tax filing. Thanks turbo tax.
What's great about it: Thumbs up. Easy to use for 1st time tax payers etc
What's not so great: Wish the state return was given free

Stress Free

I used to do my taxes the hard way-without Turbo Tax. I have rental property, some invest income and a kid in college and Turbo Tax asks thorough questions to get the max refund. Anyone can use Turbo Tax.
Pros: I moved

More than pleasantly surprised
on March 17, 2013

I guess I knew after years of doing my own taxes (typically) or with the help of an accountant (in the better years) I knew I could always just end the session with TurboTax....but it went very well and I can recommend this to everyone I know....and if you're reading reviews, trying to decide whether to give it a try, I believe you will be pleasantly surprised also. I was worried that I might owe a sum of money that I'd want to schedule partial payments or have to extend 6 months to set aside the funds...and didn't know if TurboTax took this into consideration, but they do. Well done TurboTax people!! JMB San Francisco PS Just spoke with my daughter and told her about this...she laughed and said she did her's yesterday and earned 1000 points on her Southwest Airline mileage account....go figure
What's great about it: Fast and thorough
What's not so great: Being nervous the first time

Good Software
on March 17, 2013

The software is much improved over last year's and previous years. Very user-friendly, particularly in regard to the charitable deductions of which we have many. Logical flow, thorough. BUT, sometimes didn't pick up duplicate entries from the same source which themselves resulted from trying to deal with some bit of minutiae that caused a problem. Also, occasionally I would get hit with some number without an explanation of where it came from. For example "State Taxes Paid" -- I wasn't sure what was included and how the total was arrived at. It took some digging and some head scratching to figure it out. If the software had simply listed the components it would have save me a good half hour or more. And mine was not a complex situation. Also, users should be warned that no software program can protect them from their own stupidity.
What's great about it: Complete/easy to follow/easy to navigate/logical
What's not so great: Sometimes confusing because of poor communication
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I've been using TurboTax for 20 years. I loved it from the beginning and it actually makes doing my taxes "Fun" and "Easy." There's no better way of doing your taxes accurately other than TurboTax. They've got my trust!
What's great about it: TurboTax Takes all the Guess Work Out of It.
What's not so great: Can't Think of Any

Left hanging on state forms
on March 17, 2013
Posted by: TigaCFF
First time using TurboTax Deluxe on my own. Federal was mostly a breeze. One section on the state form didn't get filled in automatically, and there were no instructions or hints. The form itself was gibberish with zero guidance (I blame the state -- "Amount per 2012 federal return" -- amount of WHAT? There's 95 numbers on that form, do I pick one at random? "Amount determined under IRC in effect for WI" -- the initials IRC appear nowhere else on the form OR in the instructions on the state website; and again, amount of WHAT?), but the TT Support site was also no help. No matter what words I typed in the search box, I always got the same 44 results! Makes me wonder if that's really a search box. This was the only thing I needed help with -- which is praise for the software -- but I couldn't get the help I needed.
What's great about it: Mostly very quick and easy
What's not so great: No instructions or support for state return

Not as Great As Usual
on March 17, 2013

Enter information by mistake. It kept prompting me to complete the mistaken area even after I went back and said no. I ended up redoing the return from scratch to make it go away.
What's great about it: Ease of Use
What's not so great: Difficult to correct mistakes
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
