2012 Tax Returns
on March 17, 2013

This years tax software worked well and the forms, which were available loaded and were straight forward. Though, waiting for forms that were not released yet was frustrating at times. The Tax codes have changed over the last several years, with some of the past deductions not being allowed any longer.
When I tried to: print a copy for review, or for my records, the program keep trying to sent the printing to the Microsoft Media Center? This had not been a problem in the past and printing a copy was always seamless!
What's great about it: Easy step by step interviews
What's not so great: Frustrating printing my returns for reviews or to keep a copy

2012 TurboTax comments

As long as you have good personal tax records, using TurboTax makes completing state and federal taxes very easy. I've been using TurboTax since it came out in Beta years ago. Using TurboTax gives you a solid understanding of your taxes, credits, deductions, etc. Even with the minor issue of creating multiple copies of the same return, I highly recommend TurboTax.
What's great about it: very easy to use; good reviews of returns; I am comfortable with the accuracy of my returns
What's not so great: Turbotax created mulitple copies of my same federal return. Twice I had to delete older versions of the same return.

Bugs Were Encountered
on March 17, 2013

I've used Turbo Tax for many many years. This year, however, the software had some bugs. The program failed to save my file to disk on the first 6 attempts. It finally did save it though.
This was encountered during the transmission of my return. It worries me that I might have sent it too many times which might cause me grief with the IRS.
What's great about it: Too many to list
What's not so great: Bugs were encountered

This does make filing returns easy. I did my own returns before computers and wouldn't go back, however it sure would be nice to have some way of understanding where the numbers are going when following the script. I also wish the state and federal modules worked more seamlessly. I had to dig through a printed copy of the federal return to figure out that some "other income" that showed up on the VT return without explanation (but VT required and explanation) was taxable income from last year's refund. Seems like that cannot be so uncommon that it isn't automatically filled in. Also, with some income from NH (which doesn't have income tax) I don't understand why TurboTax would suggest I needed to download a NH module at $xx.xx.
What's great about it: easy guidance and saving
What's not so great: Vermont and New Hampshire State software could be more seamlessly linked to federal
