Best software Out there! hands down!

This was my first time doing my taxes by myself and it made me feel so good about my self! Turbo Tax helped me save so much money by helping me do my taxes by my self. I used to pay a company every year to do my taxes. Not no more!

What's great about it: I love it how it walks you through step by step!
What's not so great: None!
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Gotten Sloppy

Found significant errors in the programming this year and significant oversights. I was asked in enter information from last years state refund information which was not autopopulated, and I am unable to open a 2011 file, other than to imports- so was unable to complete that deduction because I failed to save last year's as a pdf. I was forced to enter my spouses military entrance and exit date to qualify for a state extension- only problems: she never served and I wasn't asking for an extension- was unable to file until I made up dates- triple checked, I never accidentally claimed she was military. Three other mistakes were easy to correct, such as changing "0.00" to 'blank' when errors were found.
What's great about it: User freindly
What's not so great: Glitchy

Refunds the easy way!

Turbo Tax makes the often difficult task of filing Federal and State returns as easy as 1,2,3. It is no longer a hated task.
What's great about it: Step by step procedure anyone can follow.
What's not so great: No cons!

Great for Federal, not so great for VT

I don't know a single Vermonter who "likes" to file with the property tax rebate forms and the Homestead forms and the goofy VT state tax form. However, I found this year that Turbotax was entering amounts into the forms that I couldn't locate the source for. Most of the VT screens asked for dollar figures, but Turbotax gave no help at all about where to find them, nor did they compare to last year's forms so I could figure it out from there. I'm very disappointed in the state service this year.
What's great about it: The fed form was smooth
What's not so great: The VT form lacked instruction

I am thoroughly impressed by Turbo Tax.
It is the easiest and most thorough instrument for filing taxes personally. I have aLways filed my taxes myself, but never has it been as easy as with Turbo Tax.
I wouldn't consider any other method of tax preparation in the future.
What's great about it: Loved the ease of entering information

Good software!

I utilized the interview method. It was quite lengthy but good for folks not familiar with the right forms and process. Having done long form and business forms prior to retiring, I found the interview method a bit lengthy and time consuming. However, as I am getting to the legal (elderly) age, it is probably the best way to go, with the interview process, and not rely upon old memory! LOL

Drill Downs for Estimated Taxes

The CD version of Turbo Tax has been a great help for me in filing Federal and State returns for over 20 years. I highly recommend you try it.
One suggested improvement is to provide drill-down capability from the 1040 ES worksheets and online forms so that we can see the calculations and origins of the figures it is showing for this current year and next year. I found it hard to verify where the current year figures were coming from and I think a drill down and display of the calculations would be helpful.
What's great about it: I've been using TT for 20+ years - great product
What's not so great: Difficult to know how TT derived some figures in 1040 ES Worksheets
