Easier than doing this by hand

Been using TurboTax for a number of years. 2013 went pretty well. I am self-employed so there are a lot of forms to fill out, and I really can't imagine doing this all manually. I like the walk-through version because it helps me keep organized. In the "error check" step, though, there isn't enough information about where the error occurred and what the purpose of the information is... and I had to go through several steps to find the place in the form so I could figure out how to fix it.
What's great about it: I'm confident I didn't miss anything
What's not so great: It's difficult to track down errors

Quicken errors when importing prior year return
on March 17, 2013

Discovered error made my Turbotax program when importing information from a prior year return. Even made changes to personal information that would have resulted in higher tax payments than required. Not identified in Step-by-Step. Must review carefully the forms themselves, including personal information. Also, not so user friendly when requiring to file multiple State returns.
What's not so great: Non-user initiated changes to personal information.

I'm glad this is over until next year. ...........
What's great about it: Some of the guided areas are easy, while others need more clarification.
What's not so great: Turbo Tax forces you to e-file state return. It should be easy to print just required pages to file by mail to state.

2012 Return

I used Turbotax Deluxe, and have been using this product for several years. Each year there has been at least one problem. This year, my Iowa Depreciation Adjustment Schedule (IA 562A) had an error; apparently something from the prior yr didn't transfer relating to cummulative depeciation. There was no good indication or help for fixing the problem, so I ended up overriding the column I value on that form and line 14 on IA 1040. Also, every year Turbotax fails to ask me for personal property tax for for vehicle registration (IA 1040 Schedule A). I have to open the schedule and add this. The Federal return asks for this information, but it is ignored by the State return. Regarding poor screen handling - when you complete an income section, you are returned to the top of the list of sections, rather then to the next section in the list. In other words, the screen should be scrolled to where the next section is visible. I've also had instances where the interview process deviates from its normal/original course; seems to be related to backing up or restarting a section. Don't have specifics to share on this.
What's great about it: Well organized categories for income and deductions
What's not so great: Poor screen handling and error correction capabilities

My Turbo Tax Experience

I love using Turbo Tax. I have used it for years. My children are now older and the most difficult section is the College Expense Deductions. The questions are not always clear. I frequently had to refer to Help and the chat rooms as well.
What's great about it: The step by step questions.
What's not so great: College Expense Deductions

Good but not as good as previous years

Overall still a good product however in the 2012 delux version there was much less available help than previous years. Also for several of the associated investment forms the questions asked did not cover all of the required box entries and descriptions which left one guessing on several occassions. Also - there were a few glitches in the error check where it needed a 'blank space' to clear and not a zero which caused many iterations of confuson
What's great about it: Transfer of information and statements
What's not so great: Written support
