mentioned that form 1099R copies needed to be filed with State return but no evidence they were attached to the electronically filed return and no hint as to whether or not paper copies needed to be sent to the State. Also, mentioned that a signature form was needed with State efile and that program would help to print it later but, again, after return was accepted by the State, no hint of how to generate the form.

I have been using TurboTax for the past 6 years and it has always been fairly easy. This year, you did not automaically get my W-2 info and pre-populate my return. Also, even though you listed and downloaded information (DIV, INT, etc) in the past, this year you only knew about Ameriprise and not Northwest Mutual nor my credit union. You did at least know about my creit union in the past and down-loaded that information. Last, the interface was not as easy to follow or as intuitive as in the past. Overall, I do like TurboTax and expect to use it in the future.
What's great about it: easy and fast
What's not so great: not as intuitive, did not auto-download all financial information

Tax prep for dummies

I like Turbo tax. I am a tax advantage member and i am notified when it is ready to download. The download is simple. I always use to have problems when I was using a CD. It is easy to use and walks you through most everything you need to know. I was disappointed the year that I had stock options and is was difficult to understand how to set up the cost basis amounts and i almost screwed that up. Bottom line turbo tax is great but not perfect if you have more difficult situations. The E filing is so easy and you can import data into your state return which makes it so much better. I wish the local taxes could be done the same way!!!
What's great about it: Easy to use and I love that I can import data from prior year
What's not so great: The year i had stocks options was a little difficult to figure out the proper way to answer the questions

TurboTax Makes DIY Easy

TurboTax has greatly simplified my filing of tax returns over the last few years and is worth every penny!! There was one funky sequencing of information on my State return this year. I had both social security income and a govt pension and it was not apparent until I reviewed the final form for my State how much of the social security was deducted from my income for purposes of State calculation (as allowed by my State). I would have liked to have seen an auto generated amount on this calculation rather than having to wait to see it at the very end. It would have increased my comfort level that the amount of taxable social security was being deducted! Otherwise, all went smoothly.
What's great about it: Carryover of data from prior years and comparisons.
What's not so great: Would like to see some of behind the scenes assumptions, especially in State forms.
