2012 Tax Returns

What's great about it: Accuracy; led me through various deductions which greatly simplified the process.
What's not so great: A little vague when starting my state return.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Been using this for several years and have been satisfied with the product every year.
What's great about it: Very easy to follow by answering the questions.
What's not so great: More detailed answers to areas not understanding would be helpful.

Good But hard to follow this year

Used this last year, my computer crashed and lost last years data. I printed a hard copy just in case...good for me they dont save a file.
The sales add on are very annoying. I paid fill price, if I wanted to E filed my state, guess what I would purchase a package for that...oh wait you don't offer that. Oh we are so accurate and you wont get audited, but wait for just a few more bucks you can get insurance. Really did a car salesman take over?
Finally the math is really hard to follow. As someone who has filed taxes for years its not that hard, but your software needs a level setting. For us who care how it comes up with all of the math please let us set it to show your work. For the math challenged and for the ones who blindly allows the computer to steer them they can pick that setting.
I will buy this product again, but fear it will be even more dumbed down and full of sales offers.
What's great about it: Covers lots of items and make filing easy...
What's not so great: ...however the math is hard to follow, the sales add on's suck.

Because of the "cons" took me three times as long to complete Fed return. Instructions replete with ambiguities
Overall, very poor when compared to piror years
What's great about it: Not many
What's not so great: Both fedearal and state forms not up-to-date

easy as pie

I like the step by step instruction. I have been doing my own taxes for a few years but I am by no means an expert. I like that there are links to "EXPLAIN THIS" for most of the choices. I do wish, however, that there was an option to place you into every possible income/deduction area. There were some that it didn't choose for me but whne I went back and opened them up manually (just in case) I saw that I COULD fill out the forms and they did apply. Otherwise, an easy to use program and I feel that I get the maximum refund I could possibly get. Very confident!
What's great about it: links to explain everything
What's not so great: wish it automatically went to EVERY possible subject without asking. You may have never known if you qualify.

This is a nice product. It is my second year using it and I really like it. I always used to do my own taxes by getting the forms I needed and following the directions. I ran into two main problems doing it that way.
1. The directions on the various forms was not always properly clear. For the most part they were, but there were instances. Filing taxes accurately is important, so even anything that isn't clear is not the best situation and requires laborious research.
2. While some credits or deductions are brought up by government forms, there are can be a LOT out there that you have to dig up for yourself. Which again gets back to laborious research.
TurboTax helps the process make sense and be straight forward. Even better, Intuit has has already done the research and helps you get any credits or deductions you can (Deluxe version on up). I can say that the money TurboTax has "found" for me has well exceeded the cost of the software.
What's great about it: Much more simplified process than IRS forms and directions.
What's not so great: Costs extra money vs. manually doing your own taxes.
