Quick Fast Easy

I love turbo tax! I have been using it for the last 3 years. I love the idea of doing this on my own and it doesn't burn a whole in your pocket to get it done. I also love the fact that its a step by step procedure that ask you questions and helps you get the most out of your return. Thanks!
What's great about it: Let's me do it on my own, low cost, way cheaper then going to a tax store
What's not so great: Only let's you have one state free when there are lot of people out there that work and live in different states

Turbo Tax is great, but has errors this year.

Turbo Tax is always great when filing and it allows me to file very early. This year however, Turbo Tax had me jumping through hoops to find receipts for college tuition and books only to tell me afterward that I was not qualified for the write off. I'm guessing it was the high income, since none of the other options were true (guessing game here). But Turbo Tax already knew I was not able to take the deduction, so why did it direct me to collect all this data for nothing? BIG disappointment. Also, when I tried to change my filing dates, I was locked out of the Update option. I had to go into the forms section to make the change. This was a big pain. ANOTHER BIG disappointment. What happened to your quality control?
What's great about it: Quick and thorough returns with eFiling
What's not so great: Problems with educational refund & locked out of changing file dates

Easier access

When entering income and deductions you are returned to the beginning of that section when you complete each area. Why can't you be automatically taken to the next income/deduction area instead of having to scroll down to it

Sometimes clunky

I'm a first-time user of TurboTax- previously I've always gotten help with my taxes from a real-live person. This was in many ways better- I got to take care of things on my own time, and really got to go over a lot of things without necessarily having my mind overloaded with forms.
However, there are times when I have to rredo certain things all over again. For instance, I don't need a splash screen telling me every time I go in that they're going to get me my biggest refund guaranteed- I know this, and that's why I bought it. Also, if I want to put things in via EasyGuide once, I probably want to do that again. Also, when editing a school I attended, why do I have to redo ALL the information if I just need to edit one thing?
What's great about it: Systematic
What's not so great: Flows poorly sometimes
Pros: I moved, My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

What happened with exempt interest dividends?!!!!

I wasted an entire hour (and it looks like from the online questions and answers, other users lost more time: there was a problem this year that Turbo Tax needs to fix for next year. We were being asked to enter information for Exempt Interest Dividends, when we didn't have any!!!! Thank God there were some educated Users who offered up a solution, because there wasn't a formal answer from Turbo Tax for those who asked questions.
I'll think twice about purchasing this next year. I'm in a really bad mood now after the frustration I felt trying to solve YOUR problem, and I even have a refund coming.
Also, my state filing didn't automtically start loading. After going through the "start" and then downloading PA program, the program didn't start until I closed Turbo Tax and started again. I'm REALLY frustrated
I'll think twice about purchasing this next year. I'm in a really bad mood now after the frustration I felt trying to solve YOUR problem, and I even have a refund coming.

In a couple of cases it kept asking for a state ID where one was not needed. Also, some info that I entered was lost when I tried to continue the return after exiting it.

Too many errors these days!

I have been using Turbo Tax since it first came out but lately the software is getting sloppier. In 2011 it totally forgot to transmit a credit to the IRS that appeared on the printed copy leading to a 4 month hassle with the IRS. For my 2012 taxes it incorrectly showed me as having a State refund of $367 while in fact I had paid the State $428. If I had followed the directions for my college daughter's 1098-T entry my tax bill would have tripled instead of the $2500 credit I was entitled to. These are TOO many mistakes and they would have been expensive to me if I had been asleep at the wheel and trusting Turbo Tax to be correct. You need better quality control, these are not hard topics to get right.
What's great about it: Easy Step is nice
What's not so great: MISTAKES and misleading choices.
