No military retirement 1099-R for MD State Tax
on March 13, 2013
Posted by: elcheapogringo
I have to manually enter a deduction from my military retirement pay. Software did not ask whether my form 1099-R is a military retirement pay.
Turbo tax needs to fix this!
What's not so great: MD State Tax software omitted Military Retirement

I am extremely frustrated with Turbo Tax's lack of recognition of Apple. I purchased a new Apple computer to complete my taxes this year, however became extremely frustrated when I discovered that Turbo Tax Business (LLCs etc.) is not supported. Please dedicate some resources before next season to change this deficiency. Thank you.

One improvement

The program needs a way to just click on the error review and go to the page in error as it once did.
Utah files or very hard to correct.
What's great about it: The program worked as advertised.
What's not so great: Hard to go back to errors.

Mostly OK
on March 13, 2013

Worked OK until I went to e-file. I'm retired and haven't worked in two years. Kept asking for my W-2 zip code even though I didn't have a W-2. The only work around was to put in the one I last had 2 years ago.
What's great about it: Reasonably easy to use
What's not so great: Some Bugs

I have used Turbo Tax for years and have no plans to change anytime soon. It is complete, easy to use, and everything is clearly explained. My only complaint is that every year my State return says that I owe the state $1000+ dollars. I know what the problem is, but it takes five or ten minutes every year to find the place that asks if my state exempts military retirement pay. Once I click on "yes", my return is corrected, but it takes a long time and a lot of digging to find that panel.
What's great about it: Clearly explained everything, easy to use.
What's not so great: My state doesn't tax military retirement pay. Every year I have to search for the panel that removes my retirement pay

2012 Tax Return
on March 13, 2013

I have been using TurboTax for many years. This was the easiest yet. The improvements made the process easier than ever.
What's great about it: Overall, the completion was pretty easy and completed in just a few hours.
What's not so great: I had some trouble entering the tax exempt income and had to go to a worksheet form to get it into the 1040, line #8b.
