2012 Turbo Tax Review

As soon as I thought I was finished and it told me I was......I wasn't. I felt like I was in a loop much of the time having to re-enter data I already entered before.
Also, I believe there needed to be much better support and explanation when it came to HSA, MSA's, etc. This is a confusing area for many, but I worked through it.
What's great about it: Categorization of data
What's not so great: I felt like I was often in a endless loop

Flash Tax Filing

I Have used Turbo Tax for Years. one year, I tryed another Program, and believe me I Came Running back Home to Turbo Tax. This is the Fast, Simple way I have ever used, and believe me I have Tried everything; Including Calculater Pen, Paper, IRS Form and Booklet awg!!!!!! I Will use Turbo Tax From Now On.

I was in the process of writing a great review and al of a sudden the things I had written disappeared and I couldn't recover the data. IO didn't want to take the time to rewrite what I said. So, you will have to wait until next year. And maybe make the review process such that it won't be erased willy-nilly. Save the data as the person is writing it.

Easy money with TurboTax !

Great software been using it many years now doing my own taxes. It finds every deduction you can legally take and literally deposits the refund back in your bank account for you. Sweeet !
What's great about it: Simple step by step instructions.
What's not so great: State return not free E-file. Boooooo!

I have used TurboTax for years but was quite disappointed this year. It showed that only one of my children qualified for the Child Credit. I tried to go in and see what I had entered wrong but when accessing that part it would not let me pull up the information I entered. I even tried to go back to the section before (Adoption) hoping it would lead me into seeing what was entered for the Child Credit but with no luck.
There was not a very good description as well to why I was not getting this credit. I looked through all the main reasons to be denied and none of them applied. I did finally find the error. I had failed to enter that my son had lived with us the full year. This was after about 30 minutes of trying to find the error.
Another disappointment this year is when filing you have the option of paying for electronic filing with the state as well. I selected that option and entered my credit card info banking info etc. only to find out after filing Federal and attempting the State, I am required to send in the paperwork. I did not understand why TurboTax would not alert me to the fact that I did not qualify for e file before it gave me the option (I didn't need to change or enter anything else) so the program should have know I did not qualify for the e file option at the start of the actual filing of the state return.

Quirky Deluxe Edition

On the Deluxe version I accidentally clicked "Yes" to Vehicle expense (under the Business expenses) and I could not delete it no matter how many times I tried. When Turbotax ran the error check at the end it demanded I enter when I put the vehicle into commission. Same thing happened when I clicked on home office expenses. I started a completely new return and re-entered everything making sure to click "No" the second time around and it worked.
It also says I am ineligible to e-file since my state form cannot be sent at the same time which is confusing since a few clicks later you can simply choose not to e-file the state one.
What's great about it: It worked... finally
What's not so great: Click the wrong button and had to start over
