I've been using TurboTax for over 10 years now, and once again, I have reason to come back. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. It makes the impossible, possible.
What's great about it: I love that last year's info is transferred onto this year's returns.
What's not so great: Certain circumstances prevent me from e-filing.

Have used TT for multiple years now and continue to find a very good product.
One very small detail: in the sales tax calculation module I have difficulty in editing the amount for large items (car, boat, et al.) after it's been initially input.
Keep up the good work !

Very Informing

I was afraid that I would not be able to understand tax "lingo" as I am not business oriented. But pleasantly surprised that I did not have to worry about this. Going thru each step was easy as the explanations helped my understand what I needed or even if I needed to complete an item or step. I really surprised myself with Turbo TAX. I felt like I was led by the hand.
What's great about it: I was surprised that I can understand the wording on the different items needed to file my return.

Turbo Tax POOR PERFORMANCE
on March 8, 2013

Very poor performance in transferring my info from previous years. Because of this I had to enter a lot of old information that did not transfer over. My tax situation was hardly changed from previous returns. My wife and I had the same employers, in fact I actually dropped one. At the END in a certain category where I had to enter the State abbreviation, the program entered SC instead of MS then despite up to 10 attempts to correct this, Turbo Tax did not allow me to go forward or backward. With this I had to force quit and restart. After the restart, It continued to perform in this manner, and I was forced to discard all my data and manually enter all data from the beginning. This took up to 2-3 hours to accomplish, a big waste of my time.
What's great about it: None this year.
What's not so great: Had to go through all the categories that did not apply to my situation. Turbo Tax would not allow some corrections.

The question about an RMD on pension was very confusing. I even went on the community board and it was posted several times. At first I answered "no" but after thinking about it extensively, I realized that could not be the correct answer as my pension has always been taxable. So, as a result I went back in and checked "yes, it was a total RMD for the year." I feel a better explanation was in order here as the RMD question should not have been in the return. Maybe just "was this a taxable pension" would have been a better choice. I worked as a tax preparer years ago, so I think that helped in my choice.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Question on retirement income not clear

Everything went fine, except how NY state withholding was handled on 1099-R. Using Steo-by-Step input of my 10099-R forms, Turbo Tax prefilled the box on how to handlw state withholding with an "N", which is invalid for NY. State processing in Turbo Tax handled the "N" the same as "G" or "O" codes and I ended up with a $20,000.00 eclusion on line 29 on form IT-201, which is incorrect, as none of my retirement income is related to NY state or local government. Also, even though NY tax withheld was less that gross distribution, I had to enter the distribution in box 14 of the 1099-R worksheets in order to get past the errors.
What's great about it: ability to overide Turbo Tax errors in form mode
What's not so great: hard to figure out what to do this year
