First Timer
on March 4, 2013

This was my first time to ever use TurboTax - my fellow co-workers talked about how easy and realiable it was. Since my CPA retired, I was lost at what to do for our taxes. I'm glad I took the advise of my co-workers and filed it with TuborTax.
What's great about it: Easy process flow

Why the state return glitch?
on March 4, 2013
Posted by: rdajba
I've been using TurboTax for over 20 years, and this is the first year I've seen a real glitch in the program. When i went to do my No. Carolina return, which the program had downloaded already, it wouldn't open; just sent me into a loop. Finally, I went to the help menu, and after much digging I found the solution which was simple: exit the program and re-load. Why don't you, TurboTax, fix this glitch or put a warning on the start state tax return page? This is the 4th of March, long past the time you should have fixed this issue. Please, please don't do this to us again!! Or at least put it right up front and center when a customer clicks the help button!
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: State return won't load easily

Not Perfect, But Comfortable
on March 4, 2013

I use Turbo every year, and I am comfortable with navigating myself rather than answer every question in the book. I do a sched c and Turbo Deluxe is just fine with that, even though Turbo ads try to tell me I should try their business tax ware. One thing that Turbo usually does is that it makes at least one improper assumption based on the prior year. For example, this year it asked if I had made any 529 education contributions... and then assumed not "because you didn't make any last year." Well, I always make 529 contributions! So, I have to be careful not to pay too much attention to Turbos assumptions. Easy to download Turbo.... I do it on my computer, not online. I like the security of doing the work on my desktop rather than poking around on the internet. I e-file my Fed and print and mail State.... much less costly that way.
What's great about it: Calcuations are always correct... easy to navigate on my own.
What's not so great: Difficult to pick and choose what you want to print, and what you don't.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Easy and fast!

I have used Turbo Tax in the past, but this year was the first time I was a bit disappointed by the state part. As stated, above it could be a state problem not Turbo Tax but it made for a bit of a hassle.
What's great about it: The easy step and walking you through the forms.
What's not so great: Could not pay my state tax online. Changed from the past, so it could be a state problem not Turbo Tax.

Easy as Pie

TurboTax Deluxe allowed us to prepare both our federal and state income taxes with one CD. And, our data from the federal return was auto downloaded into our state return. Additionally, you have the option to browse through the process on your own (for seasoned TurboTax users) OR have the program lead you step by step (for first timers and ease of mind).
What's great about it: Walkes you through each step of the tax prep & filing process
What's not so great: What do I do with all the left over aspirins I didn't use in the tax prep process?

Does a good job. I would like to compare it to H&R Block's Program.
What's great about it: Different than 2011
What's not so great: Not as easy to understand

Audit Defense Services
on March 4, 2013
Posted by: BB2013
I did not want to buy the Audit Defense Services part but found no easy way, in fact, no way at all to delete it or uncheck a box.
There was a note saying that I could change my mind over the next 30 and correct the situation that way. Of course I will as I have no other choice but I find that an unappealing option. I hope you will not carry the practice forward and instead make the option to decline the service easy, clear and convenient to the end user.
What's great about it: I liked everything except the Audit Defense Services part.
What's not so great: It is too difficult to understand how and why removal of the Audit Defense Services part can not be easily removed.
