COULDN'T BE EASIER

I LOVE TURBO TAX. I PAID SOMEONE $250 TO DO MY TAXES AND IT WAS A LOT MORE WORK FOR ME AND THE SAME RESULTS AS WITH TURBO TAX.
What's great about it: I LOVE THAT EVERYTHING IS FILLED IN AND IMPORTED FROM LAST YEAR'S FORMS.

"Completed" return can always be reopened and modified if late tax forms arrive or if you wake up in a sweat at 3 a.m. and panic because you suddenly realize you had neglected to enter some key data. Always good to review the document a couple of times before commiting to actual e-filing.
What's great about it: Just answer the questions
What's not so great: TurboTax doesn't know when you enter bad data. Read each page carefully before checking "yes" or "no."

Turbo Tax is the easiest most affordable thorough way to file your own taxes.
What's great about it: I like the walkthrough features
What's not so great: I wish it came with state e file too. :)

Have been using Turbo Tax for a dozen years and will continue to do so.
What's great about it: Easy to use and thorough.
What's not so great: Error check did not like a zero instead of a 'blank' field, took a little bit of digging to figure it out.

need a big improvement on the download

I've used TurboTax directly from the website for 5 years...I thought I'd try using the download, bought from Amazon.com. It APPEARED to be cheaper, but buyer beware!! The clever, yet misleading statement about it being Federal AND State makes it appear that you are paying for both of them. The truth is that you are only paying to have the FEDERAL one e-filed, NOT THE STATE. For another $20, you can get your state returns e-filed (they kind of have you there...what else are you supposed to do?)
Also, the downloadable version is much slower than the one directly from TurboTax, and it locked up several times, and wouldn't even give me access to the state return side. Finally, I logged out and re-opened it, and it eventually worked.
I'd get TurboTax directly from the website from now on.

I love Turbo Tax because my husband is a musician

What I love about Turbo Tax is that it saves all the information I painstakingly enter the year before: the name, address, employer ID number, etc of the venue my husband performed at/ received income from last year, the name and all that key information of the child care providers we used, our bank accounts, etc. This helpful because I don't have reenter the information, but also because it reminds me to look for 1099s that I might be missing! I also appreciate all the prompting on deductions, from office space to sheet music.
What's great about it: I can deal with the endless sources of income and music-related deductions
