We have used TurboTax for several years & have been very pleased. We have experienced no problems with preparation and/or e-filing. We recommend to everyone.
What's great about it: Easy & reminders to help you list all necessary information get all credits you are eligible for
What's not so great: Don't know of any.

Turbo Tax jumped back to top of list of activities

Overall really like TT. Have used for years and will continue to do so. It is somewhat annoying that TT jumps back to the top of a list of entry possibilities within a category when you finish with one.
What's great about it: Easy to use, keeps you informed as to current payment due / refund status at each step in process
What's not so great: TT goes back to the top of the list of entry possibilities within a category when you finish with one

For the most part, Turbo Tax is a very easy way to file a tax return. However, there were some instances where it got confusing. One glaring example: My wife died during the tax year and one of the questions at the end for the NJ State refund was "Do you want the check issued"? If yes, a copy of the death certificate needed to be filed with the return and it couldn't be e-filed. It had to be printed and mailed. However, there was no explanation of what would happen if I chose not to issue the check. Would it be direct deposited, held in limbo, not issued at all????

Navigating the complications of filing registered domestic partner taxes in Oregon is made much easier by the instructions in turbo Tax.
What's great about it: The step-by-step instructions make it easy. Importing information from last year is great.

QUICK FIX TAXES

I DID NOT LIKE THE PRINT SET-UP THIS YEAR. WAS A LITTLE CONFUSING WHEN IT SAID PREVIEW PRINT. ALL I WANTED WAS TO EITHER PRINT FOR MY RECORDS OR TO PRINT FOR FILING. ALSO WHEN I E-FILED THE IRS RETURN AND MAILED THE STATE RETURN, I NOTICED THE DIRECT DEPOSIT INFORMATION WAS NOT ON THE STATE RETURN. THAT INFORMATION SHOULD CARRY FORWARD FOR BOTH RETURNS.
THANKS
What's great about it: EASY TO USE AND VERY THOROUGH
What's not so great: DON'T LIKE THE PRINT SET-UP. I WOULD LIKE TO JUST GO TO WHERE I HAVE THE CHOICE TO PRINT FOR MY RECORDS OR TO FILE.

Program errored in transferring prior state taxes paid with 2011 return into the 2012 return.
My entire computer froze up every time I tried to use the Help area. The pogram tried to open into the internet but froze up everything. Extremely frustrating.
Bottom line on a from often dropped when printing.
What's not so great: Transfer error from prior year. Freerzes computer when using help. Print problems.

Copied outdated data
on March 3, 2013

Many people will blame Turbo Tax for this years filing delay which is not always true when the IRS put certain data on hold until early March. However, in my case, it was a Turbo Tax error that caused my one month delay in e-filing.
The form 8582, Passive Loss Activity, held up e-filing by the IRS until early March. In my case I should not have had a form 8582 in my return. Turbo Tax picked up outdated data from earlier years return and included a form 8582. I did not need a form 8582 in this years return. Sometimes having previous years data on your computer is not in your best interest if outdated data is copied.
There was also a portion of this return that kept repeating itself when you entered it. It was back in Jan when I finished my return so I don't remember what part of the system this occured in but it was close to the end of the federal return.
What's great about it: Easy to follow questions
What's not so great: copied outdated data
